GUI speed
I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but as a brand-spanking new OOTP player (and a software developer), the one thing that really bothers me about the OOTP6 interface is the amount of time it takes to register that I've clicked somewhere. There's a pause (of about 1 second) after I click, say, the "Pitch + Normal" button and before the play-by-play actually begins. Or between when I click a player's name and when his stat sheet is displayed. I'll often click a button a 2nd time (not sure if I hit it properly the 1st time) only to find that now both clicks were registered and I've selected a play I didn't want to make.
Since most of the applications we use daily give us instant feedback when a button is pushed or a keystroke is made, it'd make the interface a lot more comfortable to use (especially for us newbies) without these inexplicable delays. I've read that the next version is being revamped from scratch, so hopefully this'll be taken care of. Anyway, this game (and this community) is sweet! Hope to be playing for many years to come. ![]() |

Regarding your slow down, I don't know about anyone else but I've been playing since version 4 and have never had this problem in versions 4,5,6, or 6.5. The only time I had a real problem was when my computer was invaded with some sort of virus (not saying that's what is happening to you) and occasionally if Norton is auto d'loading updates while I'm playing a game. Maybe you should post in the tech area along with specs and other apps that may be running while you are playing the game. Someone there with more knowledge than I may have an answer to your slow down. |

Hey, thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure this isn't a "bug" as much as it is a design flaw. My PC can handle the top of the line graphics-intense games (but who needs 'em when you got OOTP?), and I have no viruses or extraneous applications/processes running. I'll post over in the tech forum, though, to see what they have to say. Thanks again.

I'm not a computer programer and my computer isn't state of the art...but when I pick a play or click a player to go to their player page...it instantly happens. With that said...I do see a slow down when I'm playing out my games with the in-game sounds are on. When I press a # button, it does seem to take a moment to catch up before you actually see it take effect.
I am curious...does this lag happen all the time or just when you are playing out a game and also do you have the in-game sounds enabled?

I have the interface sounds on, but not the in-game sound (it crashes after a game if I keep in-game sound on). I turned off the interface sounds and the menu animation, but I get the same results. I did try installing the game at work this afternoon, and I'm happy to report that this lag did not occur. My work PC doesn't have nearly the CPU, RAM or video specs my home machine has, though, so I'm baffled. This does mean that this lag is not "by design," however, so maybe we could get one of our friendly moderators to move this thread over to the Tech Support forum. Regardless, any help from anybody would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Love the name, Adrockski.
![]() As for your problem, I can't remember a time when I didn't have it, on a few systems. And I'm one of those people who likes to have as few programs running as possible like those load at startup ones. Especially when I click a drop down menu, sometimes I'll have to wait a few seconds. Sometimes it's worse than at others though. Although annoying, I've gotten used to it. If someone finds a fix though, that would be great. Sometimes I'm convinced the game is leaking memory and that's causing a slow down, but I have no idea how to confirm or deny that.

Direct 3D problem maybe? You might try using the utility program to turn off Direct 3D features and animation.
I've got an old computer and always turn off Direct 3D, since turning it off made the interface much quicker to respond. |

Kq, just run that configuration program in the OOTP folder, and disable Direct 3D. Hope it works as well for you as it did for me. Thanks a million, fellas. ![]() |

EDIT: Maybe I should give some system info. I don't recall the specs of other systems, but this one has: AMD 706 MHz Processor 224 MB RAM WinXP SP2 And when I'm running OOTP I often have the following programs running as well to do an online league sim: Firefox Thunderbird 4 Explorer.exe windows Excel (this might actually be the problem b/c it often stalls itself) Editplus Quickrun (startup program that adds customizeable popup menus to taskbar)
