Rivals

I dont know if this has been discussed yet, but how about adding a list of 3 rivals or so per team? Teams that no matter how crappy teams are doing in the standings, the fans generally hate each other and show up to root for their crap team versus the other?

for example, with the Yankees, you could add:
1) Boston Red Sox
2) New York Mets
3) Baltimore Orioles

or with the Dodgers:

1) San Francisco Giants
2) San Diego Padres
3) Anaheim Angels (i refuse to refer to it by any other name!)

i already know that divisional opponents rake in more money than others, but I know that personally, i'm more tempted to catch a game vs the padres or giants than the diamondbacks or Rox.

also, i added some interleague rivals in there as well... for interleague play, these games usually sell out for some teams between territorial rivals.

my workaround currently is to schedule a promotion for the third game of a series between rivals as "interleague play day." and increased attendance to 200%.

i figure that the third game, the fans are either going to see the "rubber game" or maybe one team is going for the sweep. Thoughts?

Ultimately, I think this might be too complicated to implement. I mean, would teams be able to develop rivalries as the seasons wore on?

I suppose yes. Like maybe a team you meet in the WS becomes a rival? meet them twice, they move up the list? maybe if your BIG rivalry becomes 1 sided in terms of who's winning, they get knocked down a few spots?

I thought of this a while back. It would insure higher attendance and may even lead to more beanings and bench-clearing brawls.
