Team Regions

I would love to see all the cities in the cities dat file also assigned to regions, then when create a league the option to create the division and select a region or multiple regions for the division. That would be great for random leagues where you want to create your team but could care less where the other 31 teams are from. If not a option to select by division, at least a button that is called something like "Alignment" and it puts the teams into a more realistic division format.

While we are there I would like to see players created with a birth region assigned to them and to have this matter when they sign with teams, a player would have his loyalty assigned locally by the region he is from.

Also it would be nice to have pre made logos for all the cities in the cities dat file. Even if they are the cheesy logos like the one OOTP puts out now for the teams. The logos could even be share between cities or be identical but colored differently..... Hate to start leagues then have to spend hours creating logos and divisions and such.... should be able to just click and the league is there.....logos and all in a good divisional alignment.

I know these are just dream items to make the game more enjoyable for myself and would probably not be in any future versions, but these would make the game much better, at least for me.....

I definitely like the idea of having the cities assigned to regions. I started a quickie solo league in 6.5 just to try out some of the new features, and didn't put any time or effort into city names, geographical alignment, logos, etc. Now, 3.5 seasons in, I find myself attached to my players and wishing at least the divisions were a little more sensibly organized.

I always thought it would be not so hard to implement. I would just have the cities dat file looking like this somewhat:

Los Angeles, 4, 47
Seattle, 4, 49
Dallas, 3, 32
Chicago, 2, 26
Atlanta, 3, 17
Boston, 1, 5
New York, 1, 7

The second column would be the main regiion maybe have 4. North, South, East and West as I have them. The third column being the state regions. This way you could have an input screen that has the option like such:

Division#: Your division name
Region: Drop down to multi select drop down box lists regions and subs....

This would be done on the create league setup where you currently have the cities listed and the button that says randomize cities. You just need another button that opens a screen that would display the number of divisions as you have in the setup.

The reason you need the 2nd region or sub region is that you may want Chicago and the other northern towns to be part of your East division. So you would then select region 1 for east and then also select sub region 26. This would give you Illinois cities with the eastern locations...or the main reason I would like this is because I play different types of states leagues.

Would love to just select WI, MN, IL, IN, MI, OH, PA, NY for myGreat Lakes league.....and have cities from the cities.dat file.

Oh and while I am typing this I thought that I would also like to see the cities dat file in a list that can be editted or have an ingame maintenance available for tables that are not editable..... Want my own cities.... hopefully the next version will have this...

That's why you're the programmer and I'm not.

If you simply make the sub-region a state then I think it just might be stupid enough to work. I fear overlapping in west/east/north/south may be a problem though. In the NHL Chicago is in the West, in the MLS and NBA its an Eastern city. Washington D.C. and St. Louis are both bi-sexual cities as well.

I thought of that too, but I thought that you would need the main regions so that those who just want teams in a division makes geographical sense could just use the region and those who micro manage their leagues could have more options....

Those who would want it simple could just select 2 leagues, with 2 div in each and then select East, South for two and the other league have North and West. Of course the option to move teams is still avail in the setup.....

This is probably an even simpler idea to implement than the one I suggested a while back in which every city had latitude/longitude coordinates and a mathematical formula determined proximity.

Not only would this be practical for geographical alignment, but also for free agency. If a player's hometown was in the same "region" or "sub-region" as a certain team, he would be more likely to sign with them.

While I'm extremely happy that the new version will consider a player's hometown in free agency, I'm a little worried that it might only affect a player who's hometown is the same city where the team plays. Having "regions" would make this feature even more realistic.
