Pulling Starting Pitchers

I'm certain all of the algorithms change with the new setting, but with regard to starting pitchers a variable would be an additional change of pace. That is, currently, really regardless of the strategy settings 5 runs seems to be the number than tilts the scales and prompts a decision to bring in a reliever. This magic numbers seems to be the "shelled" figure; very predictably the point where the pitcher is retired.

Maybe a bit of variance in relation to what slow and quick hooks really mean to the individual AI manager rather than the more global approach commonly used.

Somewhere, someone made the suggestion of having AI managers with different styles, so you could have an Ozzie smart-ball style (once anyone figures out what it is) or a sit back and wait for the home run approach. I think this would fit right in with that. Go with a Dusty Baker leave them in there until their arms fall off, or a quicker hook? Someone willing to watch his pitchers struggle through, or someone who goes to the bullpen quickly? I like the idea of the modifiable manager style, and this could be a nice part of it.

We're on the same page but, as I mentioned, even the modifications we're using now don't seem to offer enough variance. If the styles are offered in 2006 the tendencies need to broaden a range, like moving ratings from 1-10 to 1-100 so that settings of 3-5 all don't generate the same results. Even better would be to have a coupling or mitigating effect with regard to the pitcher in question. That could make for a Favorite Son status for one of the starters, or a No-Breaks Jake status for one of the more unpredicatable relievers.

I sure wish the AI would pull pitchers quicker.

I see where a pitcher will give up 8 runs before he is pulled...when he has given up 4-5 runs and then allow more men on base...pull him.

Lately I have seen an ungodly total of walks by a single pitcher...Dizzy Dean, with good control, walked 10 batters in six innings...another pitcher walked 12 in seven innings...no manager would go that long with a pitcher.

After 5-6 walks in 5-6 innings, please AI, pull him.

I wish the team and player strategies were more descriptive. That is, instead of "slow", "fast", or somewhere in-between hooks, it would show the # of runs or whatever when the player would be pulled. Better yet, I'd rather see those #s just be inputtable with a default. That way we'd have a better idea of what exactly we'd be telling the game to do instead of just hoping or thinking that hook X means pull the pitcher when Y happens. This goes for as many of the strategies as possible.
