Graphic representation of pennant races
May have already been suggested (too lazy to search today):
Here are a couple of websites with what I'm talking about: http://www.pennant-race.com/all_current_baseball_races http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/ar...tting-graphic/ This the book that started it all: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books Baseball's Pennant Races: A Graphic View (Paperback) by John W. Davenport

I like that, a lot! It really tells you the entire season's story of a team (OAK and BAL are interesting opposite cases) and even an whole division (NL east and west are also interesting opposite cases) in seconds.

You're right. It gives a good pick to tell you the story of the entire season. It is neat to look at things this way. |

If one wanted to be really greedy one could ask for a graphic like the Games Above/Below .500 but showing Games Behind Leader. Whoever is in 1st place is at the top at zero and the other teams behind them are down below.
It is only like turning the Games Above/Below .500 graph by roughly 45 degrees, but it gives another interesting view. |

Great Idea...i've started doing these for my online league and if I weren't so lazy would do them for my solo league...Might be getting greedy but it would be even better if they were outputed in such a way that they could be saved. Would be a wonderful way to quickly review seasons past.

Really I am somewhat surprised that no one has over time built a utility that would do this. I guess the issue is with having a program in Windows that will do the graphics. The data can be pulled now from one of the exporter output files and would not be that hard to process, well, at least with some programming. An Excel file to do this would not be routine to make, but I would think somebody has at some point. EDIT - I see from the related threads at the bottom rcbuss had the idea before, but it did not generate any responses then. Last edited by gmo : 12-08-2005 at 07:43 PM. |
