I started a petition to have international play be studied by Markus. I think it would add a lot to the game, and it's been a very requested feature, so why not?

25 signatures so far, as for those who dont understand whats going on Ill give the explanation I made in the OT post...

The topic of a World Cup or international competition between regular teams has been mentioned in several threads, not just by me or LLN. I created a shortly after the board was created and there have been multiple asking for some sort of World Cup/Champions League/International Cup since that thread was created. I think Markus underscores the support for such a feature and has pushed it aside for now. With the base of the code coming from SI they have source code for a World Cup already with Football Manager. In theory, it would be relatively easy to implement and if there is as much support for it in this version as I hope their is then Im hoping (lots and lots of hope) that it may be able to persuade Markus.

The only direct response that I've seen (or at least remember) from Markus on a World Cup was,

To me, the yet leaves it somewhat open ended. The thinking is that strong support for it would be enough to change that sentence around.

Its just a friendly petition to show the amount of support for the feature, no malice was intended.

What if one were to set things up to where there are no international leagues in their game?

That would make an international tournament rather useless. If there were a way to customize a tournament it might work, but considering that due to the customizability of the game and the wide variety of setups that we will all use, I don't see how a canned tournament would be at all possible.

Sure, FM's got the world cup, but the leagues in FM are fixed, the nations are fixed. If Markus can fit it in, great, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to implement and I'd rather he get everything that he's already working on working right first.

I love the idea of a World Tournament or a Champions League/Tournament, but Markus already knows that this is a request and I believe he will put it in when he gets a chance. However, there is already a ton of new stuff coming in the next version and regardless of what people may think, he doesn't just have to wave his hand to add this stuff. It takes time, so you are going to have be patient. I don't think a petition will change anything at this point in the development cycle for OOTP2006, nor do I think it should.

You have a really good point, andy. It is far to late in the development cycle for something like this to get added.
