Salary Comparison in Trades

With all the new salary options, particularly in terms of structure, I think it would be very helpful to include an "evaluator" tool on the trading screen.

Here's what I mean...

Say you select a player from your roster on the trade screen and his salary is $5 million. Then you pick a player from the other team's roster who has a salary of $3 million. The evaluator would display "+2,000,000" to show that the trade would result in a relief of $2 million for your team. Then, say you added another play from the other team's roster who had a salary of $1 million. The evaluator would then show "+1,000,000". Finally, you add a third player whose salary is $2 million. The evaluator would then show "-1,000,000".

This would just make putting trades together a little easier. This would especially be true if it would take into account the remaining amount of money left on the players' contracts, as opposed to just looking at the entire value of the contracts.

Considering you will have a team budget (not to mention some leagues that have a hard salary cap) it would eliminate some of the guesswork, or at least keep us from having to do the math ourselves

I'd hope that since this is essentially just a glorified calculator, it wouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Excel is a wonderful thing.

Excel is great, no taking that away from you, but the problem is that most of the time, the game takes up the whole screen and to stop in the middle is a pain. If this thing were on screen as a feature, it would be a great asset. Of course, Excel is a great backup if they don't actualy add this feature.

Hmm - I really like the simple idea of something calculating a +/- for however long the contracts are for the involved players. Perhaps a button that could be selected to generate a small window that would come up on the screen. That way, those that want it can use it, and those that don't, don't.

The raw numbers are easy enough to think about in our heads, but a quick one-button layout would be really convenient and the suggested template of a season by season +/- strikes me as the most realistic way that a front office would view it.

Me = in favor of this.

How would you have it handle comparing incentive laden contracts to guaranteed ones?

All the best,
Jerry

Good question. I would imagine a couple of different routes to take, but a range would probably be best like such:
_________________________________________________
|xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Payroll Comparison After Trade:xxxxxxxxx|
|xxxxxxxxxxxxx Team A xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Team Bxxxxxxxx|
| 2006: +$1.437m to +$1.821m | -$1.437m to +$1.821m x|
| 2007: +$1.759m to +$2.010m | -$1.759m to +$2.010m x|
| 2008: +$0.569m to +$0.754m | -$0.569m to +$0.754m x|
| 2009: xxxxxxxx*all involved contracts expired* xxxxxxxxx|

What do you think?

What do you think?
I think that is buttery goodness.

Although if they want to make it easier (on themselves), they could just use the oh so wonderful asterisk to mean incentives are included (for instance, replacing the "to +$1.821m" and so on with an asterisk). At some point, you just have to look at the contracts yourself.
