Limit FA offers to one-year contracts (the Charlie Finley idea)

This has nothing to do with MLB rules, but it would be something fun for some of us to mess around with, and it should only be added into the game if it's relatively easy to do and won't take time away from more important matters.

I would like to see an option where we can limit all FA offers to one-year contracts, which means that after every single season, every player is a free agent every single season, and every team must be built from scratch. Perhaps this can be a league option, so we can set it just for certain leagues instead of the entire baseball universe. This is the old Charlie Finley idea, and while I don't want the game to use orange baseballs, I thought this would add an interesting twist to some of our games.

We can technically do this now, but we could cheat by offering mult-year contracts that we will never honor.

Like I said, this should only be added if it's easy and it takes no time away from something else, but it would be an interesting what-if to see what baseball would have been like if Mr. Finley had gotten his way.

Plus it would just be fun for us players, if every single season was like choosing a fantasy team but with free agency instead of a draft.

I'm not all that interested in it, but it could be kind of fun. However, why stop at one year onctracts? Why not make it so you can limit it to one/two/three/etc. contracts?

Hell, while we're at it, why not set a limit on a player's annual salary?

That way we could set, in addition to a salary cap, a cap on how much each individual player can make.

Plus, we could set that at like a high number like $25 mil per if we wanted to so we don't get those $45,142,000 annual contracts anymore.

And let us sell and buy players as well like they used to in the MLB.

Not just for the MLB League, I wouldn't want to do it for them, however I'd love to do it for a Japan league or another Foreigh league.

That could be the Alex Rodriguez factor. Or you could do it like the NHL, where no player can make more than X% of the total payroll of the team.

Many possibilities...

I like the idea of being able to limit the amount of years as well. I'm all for it.

This idea actually makes sense for independent leagues like Northern and Atlantic Leagues. After all, they would give players the freedom to move to the Major Leagues if they had the opportunity. Plus, up until free agency, isn't this how most (if not all) players' contracts were anyway?

Actually, it was more like all contracts were infinite. Yes, officialy they were all one-year deals. But under the reserve clause every contract essentially included a club option that could be picked up every year until the end of time.
