Coaching Offers From Other Clubs
I'd prefer if you could get e-mails from other clubs saying they are interested in hiring you for next season, before you re-sign with your current club. As it is now, you have to quit your current job before you can see what other teams would sign you.
On my 6 month deployment last year I played about 14 seasons, started with the Braves but got fired after the 2nd season, went to the Dodgers for 5 years and won a world series, then to the Orioles for 5 years and 2 world series, then back to the Dodgers and won another. I never could get rehired by the Braves but would be nice to know if the position would be offered to me before I re-sign with current team. That was version 6.0 I'm home and in 6.5 now but haven't changed teams any yet, so i'm assuming it works the same way, didn't see any notes on it on 6.5 feature list. Maybe even a buy-out option to get out of a contract early, but with a reputation penalty.

It might happen in some cases, but if they want you, they're not going to cut their nose to spite their face like that. So while you can't negotiate while you're under contract, you're not going to have only one shot to re-sign without being able to look around. |

You sign a contract with a team. If they fire you, they buy you out, and you can sign with any team immediately. You can quit, but you typically have to sit out the duration of the contract. You can't quit after the first year of a three-year contract with the A's just to go to the Red Sox. While you're under contract, you can't negotiate/discuss with any other teams. However, you can hear stuff through rumors, then negotiate a buyout with your current team and then sign with the new team. Typically, though, you wait until your contract expires and only then do you look for employment elsewhere. However, as I stated in my previous post, in OOTP, you have to decide whether or not to sign the extension before you ever get to see what else is out there, and if you decline it, the deal is off the table and you have to find a new team. In real life, once the contract is up, you can look around, and usually the original offer will still be on the table if you want it. |

Kinda like everyone knows the Raiders are waiting to interview Steeler offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt after the Super Bowl.

Why not have your current team offer you something before the season is over. If you don't accept then you can view the offers of everyone else and your team can either still off you a contract (possibly at a lower price) or decide not to.
That way you have the option to make more money and sign early, or see what your options are out there.

Well your current team could offer you an extension, but other teams couldn't while you are still under contract for the current season, going back to the tampering issue brought up earlier. It needs to be AFTER your current contract is complete, but BEFORE you sign a new contract that you can field offers from other clubs. If you ever played EA's NCAA Football, they do that. After your contract expires, 3 or 4 other schools will off you coaching jobs, you can take 1 or reject all offers and re-sign with your current school.
