Free Agency Surprises

Be nice to see free agents make the call based on other factors instead of money. Right now its like a game of Battleship. Give me a few days and I'll figure out what the best offer is and beat it by $50,000 or so. I'd actually like to have a player say "You offered me more money....and I know I said I'd consider the offer.......but your team sucks, so screw you." Or "I'm gonna play for the Rangers even though they offered less because my parents are in a cult down in Waco and I want to cherish every last minute with them before they strap on their black Nikes and release their spiritual self to travel around the cosmos. So screw you."

With today's players, I think the "So screw you" part is very important.

I know that in an online league that I am in players have signed for less money with other teams, even when offered more.

There are already players who will say "I want to play for a winner, not your team."

Others will say "I don't like your team."

If you've been in a number of those free agent "battles", you'll also find that when you have to best offer on the table, the CPU can sometimes swoop in and steal the guy, before you get to counter offer. And this really hurts if you're a couple weeks into the free agent draft and no talent is left.

I just had a beautiful one in a solo league.

Alex Rodriguez is in the last year of his 22 million per year deal, goes out and wins the triple crown, and decides to take a 12 million a year pay cut to stay with the underacheiving Rangers, despite his stated desire to play for a winner.

A WINNER ??

The Rangers had'nt had a winning season in 5 years !!!

What a killer, can you imagine the bidding war that would occur over a reigning triple crown winner in free-agency ??

The other one that get's me, is the one that states I dont like your team. How 'bout change that to, "I dont like your city."

The problem and the reason A-Rod is willing to take a pay cut is that 22 million is well above the realm of money the AI and game understands. The typical high end salary for a player in OOTP is around 12-15 million, so 12 million might have been enough for the AI to overwhelm the players desire to play for a winner.

A player who really doesn't want to play for a team won't even give you the option to make an offer.

Gracias. A moment of inspiration.

I know that some will just refuse to sign with your team flat out. I kinda wish they would use me and abuse me a little. Get me into a bidding war AND THEN say they never intended to sign. I know it is most likely way too much to put in. Just an off the wall thought.

God, how I love to be abused.

Wink And it usually means...to me ...

that the lil' bastahd was in my minors for the full length of time and wouldn't sign for a good amt of money. LOL I had a real winner in the minors that shined in his last yr as a minor leaguer and darned if he didnt want 9 million that next yr.

I mean he was gooood...but not THAT good. Then when I let him go to FA, he said...I dont like your organization.. EXCUSE me? I raised you from a whelp, boy! (Picture me smacking the crap outta him....)

Oh well, his mother was a stupid woman anyhow. Dumped that woman the first year. LOL She never could hit that splitter.
