Names and Nations
It seems to me that once a game is created that the the names and nation data are locked in and cannot be edited for the duration of the game. The names.dat file is seperate from other .dat files, so this can be worked around, but the nation data is stuck in the world.dat file, and therefore untouchable. Am I correct in this, or have I missed something?

There is a feature request for this, I think, for inclusion in a future version. For example, there is a Cold War era league I'd like to set up in the USSR in the 1950's and take into the 21st Century, and I'd like to sim the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the unification of Germany on the fly. Today,I built my nations.txt, cities.txt, and my flag. I fear that I won't be able to pull something as complex off as this vision of mine for another year at least. |

One person mentioned a possible workaround as this:
1. Customize your world files 2. Create a new league with the new cities/nations 3. Copy the world.dat into your previous league. I haven't tried that, and I'd urge you to back everything up before doing so. There *IS* a feature request for this, though. |

Wow! I wasn't cognizant the name files were locked, as it were, after a game is created. I took it for granted that they were not. This definitely explains why none of the edits I've made to the name files were showing up in-game.
Thanks for posting a possible workaround, Steve. I'm going to try that. Maybe it will finally remedy the "Joe" problem I've been having with my Dominican League. Last edited by Caporegime : 06-16-2006 at 12:54 PM. |

It Worked!
No it didn't!!
EDIT: In my haste to confirm that the edits I had made to the name files took, I neglected to check my league carefully. Swapping the names.dat will result in every player in your league being renamed....a disaster by any stretch of the imagination. Steve, and to everyone, I'm sorry for not checking this more thoroughly before I championed it as miracle cure in other threads. I just hope that I haven't screwed anyone up here. This is really something that I think needs to be looked at. Either, being able to edit the World Data on the fly in game, or being able to edit the world.dat and change over in game.
It might be possbilt to creat a series of world dats for different eras, and have the game switch over automatically from time to time. But possible now, but hopefully this is an idea that can become reality. At the very least, we need to be able to edit the baseball ability of countries in game, and the frequency at which good players come from them.

Exactly. I'm disapointed in how the names, nations and cities data was incorperated into the game. Other than that, I really am quite pleased with 2006. I hope it's something they can work on. I know they likely have a crapload of stuff to do, so I'm not crossing my fingers or anything.
