Not sure if this is the right thread, but...
Suggestion: Catcher throws to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd after pitch to pickoff runners. Reason: It happens. I don't know what ability this might correlate to, probably arm strength and/or intelligence. Priority: Medium to High, depending on how easy it is to implement (not a high priority if it takes away from other work on the patch)

Suggestion: Customizable conditions for the .xml file. Specifically, player name, team name, and city.
Reason: It would allow the flexibility for personalized comments based on a player or a team. If the team is the Cubs and they win, the announcer can give a Harry Caray-esque, "Cubs win! Cubs win!" Or, can comment on the crowd chanting "A-Rod! A-Rod! A-Rod!" as he comes to the plate. It would allow custom, team-related pbp. Priority: Medium.

Awareness
Suggestion: In general, PBP needs to be far more aware of the environment it is announcing. To be more specific, I would like to see the following: Have an option that can decide whether or not your announcers or "homers". Are they the local guys who are actually rooting along with you for your team to win. If so, they shouldn't be thrilled or excited when the opposing team does something well. Perhaps they even get on one of your player's cases when they are in a slump or make a bad play. "Boy Joe Smith has sure been struggling at the plate in the last week going 0 for his last 23". The announcers need to know when the guy who is currently "Xth" in the league with 56 home runs is coming to the plate and wonder aloud if the manager is going to call in a reliever since the batter is batting .456 lifetime against the current pitcher. The more the play by play is aware of the environment, the more realisitc the game will be. There are many more examples of this awareness that I could come up with but I thought these could give you the idea. The more emersion there is in the game, the less of a number cruncher it will feel like.
Reason: Emersion Priority: Medium

Out of Town Action Mentioned
Suggestion: If something happens from a different game in the league while your game is going on, have PBP mention it. Wouldn't it be cool to be in a pennat race and while your playing your game, the PBP announcer says "Bad news from Chicago, the White Sox just took a 5-4 lead over the Royals in the fifth." Accomplishments could be covered here too. "We just got word from New York that Joe Smith has extended his hitting streak to thirty six games. That's the longest steak this season so far." Those who don't like a lot of PBP banter might not like this (so it would probably have to be an option) but I think it would be cool.
Reason: Emersion Priority: Low

inspired by StratMan
(if there's a better thread for this suggestion, I don't know which one it is)
Suggestion: Additional in-game quick-play options, including: quick-play until runner reaches baseReason: Best of both worlds; take control when it matters. I like to play out games, but I"m not always patient enough to grind it out pitch by pitch, or even AB by AB. Many times I've guessed my starter had a little more in the tank, took a chance on the quick-play half inning button, only to see a "4" or "5" pop up for the opponent. I'd have had a quicker hook than my computer manager, and maybe preferred a different reliever. Priority: medium. We're doing OK without it, but it sure would be cool. |

Suggestion: On the human-managed team, after a player is lifted for a pinch-hitter or is injured and forced to leave the game, he remains on defense. Moreover, the pinch-hitter remains in the line-up after his initial AB, even on the second time around the lineup.
Reason: For better game play it should require the player to substitute a fielder. Priority: HIGH Last edited by Raidergoo; 08-31-2006 at 10:59 AM. |

From email
Suggestion: Better baserunner logic
Reason: During a self-managed game, I have never seen my outfielders throw out an opposing player trying to stretch a base hit (from a single to a double, or a double to a triple) or an opposing player going from first to third. Several of these outfielders are excellent defenders and have powerful arms and often the runner is quite slow. Throwing out runners trying to score is rare (perhaps too rare), but I have seen it happen. On the flip side, my runners are thrown out; this happens in part due to my ratings for aggressiveness on the bases. Priority: medium |

Suggestion: Ejections
Reason: have never seen a player or manager ejected, even though the game play-by-play describes tense situations on questionable strikeouts and close calls at first. Also, I've yet to observe a dispute over a close call at second, third or a play at the plate. Of course they should be tracked in manger stats. Priority: High |

SUGGESTION: Morganna The Kissing Bandit
REASON: EA says, "If it's in the game, it's in the game." I sincerely doubt that EA would put The Kissing Bandit, or streakers, or other rowdy fans into their game. Still, this stuff does crop up in real world games from time to time. PRIORITY: Low EDIT: Forum rules prohibit me from posting a link to any site that has material that would detract from the forum decorum. So, I can't post to the Wiki of The Kissing Bandit, as it contains some bad language and suggestive themes. Still, those that want to learn more about baseball before mega-corporations, labour strike and steroids, can do their own Googling. |

reduce use of nicknames
Suggestion: Cut way back on the use of nicknames, or improve their integration into the text.
Reason: • It's really awkward as it stands. While it's a nice idea to try to get more color into the game, I think that in balance it ends up sounding and feeling unnatural. Priority: low. It is not really a problem, but smoothing it out would add to the illusion of reality. |
