Get rid of the radio commercials during the game

Improve the radio commercials in the game if they must be in it.

Actually I wish you would get rid of them.

I was a disc jockey for 32 years and I have no interest in them being in the game. IMO they are kind of dumb and silly. No offense meant, just my opinion.

I actually got confused the other day thinking I had missed a home run, but I had just missed the end of the commercial that says "it's out of the park!" or something like that!

They're really not that hard to change. Open up the xml file with Wordpad or the like, do a Find for Dale's or Endgame or whatever, dig in there and make your changes. These items are all gathered together in a group. I've altered these 'announcement' toward more color commentary such as, "A slight break in the action...looks like the catcher has an equipment problem..." or "Momentary delay while [%game teamab] manager argues the size of the strike zone..."

Not dramatic, but they return a sense of normalcy to my game. In fact, as I run across phrases or ideas, I'll simply add them to a list and refresh this area now and then so even the changes themselves don't become boring.

Thanks for the suggestion, endgame.

I am just not good at messing with xml files...I don't know what I am doing and would probably really mess them up.

I looked at changing the PBP and News Stories, but decided I might cause more problems than it was worth.

Seriously, Eugene. I'm confident you could tackle at least these "radio ads." FWIW, if you should decide to try it, go to the Data/Text folder and right click on the english.xml file. Choose to Open With Wordpad or a like type text editor. Click on the upper menu Edit and Find. Type in Dale's. That will take you right to the section where these are grouped. There are only 5-6 of them and you can see how they're constructed. Not any more intimidating than the many, many pbp text entries that you wrote yourself, except these aren't filled with tokens (unless you want to add some), and the (nl)'s and ... are already there. Simply click on the area you want to change, use your backspace or delete key and then sub your own words to replace them. Give it some thought.

For someone like you, it's easier than you think, step by step. And again, for someone like you, you'll be that much happier with the game's presentation with them gone or altered. Up to you, but I have faith you can handle it with no problem. It's not tougher than anything you've already done previously.

Many times, we say "needless to say" when saying something that really needs to be said, just in case. This time, it's "needless to say, please make a backup copy of the file before editing the original."

Speaking of these radio updates, I always dread seeing the notice that "the next homerun hit means a free case of Dale and Ely's Ice Cream" or whatever it is because during the first few games I played in 2006, I got that message once and my pitcher promptly surrendered a homerun on the next pitch which cost me the game. I'm not sure if the game is programmed in such a manner that this is meant to happen or not, but it always scares the crap out of me.

If you mean reinstalling the program if one goofs up the xml file, yes, I guess you could do that. The saved league folder should survive but I imagine that other files like options.dat and the database text files would be overwritten and one would lose changes made to those. It seems like it would be less cumbersome and risky just to make a copy of the original xml file someplace and if things go awry, copy that original version back over the file that was being edited.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Special thanks for endgame for those very, very thorough instructions. I will give it a try...and make sure I have a backup...which I do on...another computer.
