Simplify starting the game

Let me start by saying i did not like 2006. I thought it was a real step backwards and therefore played it very little so i never became very familiar with the game. That could very well be a factor in this suggestion.

I thought the game was unnecessarily complicated in setting up the GM and managerial names and functions. I am a pioneer vet of the game but really could never figure how to set up the managerial and GM functions in the game. I wanted to be GM and Manager but always seemed to see someones else's name there and it just seemed overly complicated. I commented a number of times on this issue and was criticized by some who probably liked the game and just got more familiar with it. My point always was that setting up the basic functions of the game should not be complicated for anyone. I never encountered the slightest problem in this area in any of the earlier editions.

I would agree with this. I think this was one aspect that turned off some old OOTPers.

I also agree with this. If you don't do things in the proper order when adding a manager, things can get goofed up.

One thing that contributes to this is that the menu says Add General Manager and the dialog comes up with "Joe Unknown" highlighted. It is natural to think that this is the new manager to be added. However, you can type whatever you want over that name and click OK as many times as you want and you will NEVER get a new manager that way.

The reason for this is because you must click "Add another Manager" at the bottom of the screen first. Many people miss this step, I think, and get frustrated. This should be streamlined IMO.

Dola,

I did some more thinking on this. The other thing that can easily happen is when you go to Add General Manager, you inadvertently select an existing manager just by clicking on his name. Then, still thinking that you are adding a new manager and neglecting to click the "Add another Manager" button as I said above, you type in the new name without realizing that you are merely changing the name of the existing manager.
