Suggestions/Problems
Just a few suggestions for the game or future versions, I'm sure some have already been covered, and for the record I love this game and the previous versions.
SUGGESTIONS: Draft: - Pitchers shouldn't be categorized in the amateur draft. They should be given stamina ratings for starting and/or relieving, but should only be defined by a role after a year or two in the minors, and it should continue to be subject to change thereafter. During the draft simply organizing them by stamina should give you a good idea about what sort of pitcher your dealing with. - There should be more variance in talent ratings for players in the draft. Most players should be given a minimal amount of developmental talent in what he doesn't do(hitting/pitching), and have that talent level drop as they use it even less in the minors. But a few players in each draft should have significant talent in both areas, and the franchise that drafts them has the decision of where they should play(pitch/position), ex. John Olerud, Josh Hamilton, Frankie Rodriguez. - Categorize the draft into three separate groups of players: High School, College, Foreign. That way the age of the players is relative to their category. With foreign players there'd be the added bonus of some older ones that are ready for the majors, the variance of country of origin, and have other players who are 16 or 17 from other countries. I'm sure the makers of the game could have alot of fun w/ this feature. - I don't know how ugly this would be to program, but I'd like to see the stats compiled by the prospective draftees in their college, H.S., or foreign leagues. Just another factor to refer to. Random: - I'd prefer to see the ratings listed for retired players to be those at the peak of their careers so you'd have a better idea of what kind of player they were(speed, defense, throwing velocity) - I'd like to see the All-stars listed somewhere and have the number of appearances tracked. - I'd love to see franchises have the option of retiring a players number, it's great for loyal players not worthy of the HOF, and it could be used as a promotional day. - Some of more esteemed older players should retire mid-season as opposed to going to AAA. - I can't explain how I'd go about doing it, but implementing rehab assignments and/or extended spring training could be fun with the injured players - A team chemistry rating for each player would be more direct than the personality factors that hint towards it used now. Ex. Bonds, C. Everett-1, D. Eckstein, T. Gwynn- 5 - Some other player aging recommendations would be to have knuckleballers hang around longer then most other pitchers, and to turn some aging starters into relievers, or even effective closers if they've still got the stuff. - In relation to the last point, learning a new position/role in spring training stinks. Maybe there are other ways to go about it, but my only recommendation is to have players roles possibly adjust according to game use(put SP in CL spot, Try 3B at 1B) and by learning position in minors. - Players who age or get injured and are no longer effective in field should have option of becoming exclusively a DH, as opposed to just retiring or considering the injury career ending. - I read this on a previous thread and loved it, the possibility of luring a player who still has a little left out of retirement(they'd probably prefer winning teams, familiar faces), or having a player make a comeback(poss. years down the line)from a career ending injury. ex. D. Cone, J. Rijo, etc. - In relation to that, have the retired players continue to age, maybe even having the death of a HOFer in the league news page. Problems(I'm not as computer literate as most of you: - On this version I have great difficulty reading the stats in certain screens due to the white lettering and some light backgrounds, I was wondering how I'd go about changing that, or if there was a patch coming out to do so. - I JUST started my 1st historical league in 1950(finally figured it out), and after the 1st season the talent ratings of the players for a couple of my teams were wiped. Just wondering if you knew why it happened or how I could fix it(besides player editing). Thanks, Matt(Bertski82002@yahoo.com) |

I'm also computer-challenged and need step-by-step instructions...
I was told to do this to improve the screen clarity and it worked: START MENU > PROGRAMS > 400 SOFTWARE STUDIO > OOTP5> GAME CONFIGURATION When you get there...there are two toggle switches...one for sound and one for 3D. Disable "3D" and see if the screen improves. This is also where you disable the sound if you don't want it... I disabled it and it speeded up my computer. It seems they need to work on the sound in the game. Many people have had problems with the game freezing up. |

Another idea, is that players who were good and played with a team for most or all of their careers, could come back and be a coach and only be loyal to their old team and only want to work for them. I think there are a lot of things that can be done after retirement to make it so much better. Offers more history as well.
