Scouts' strategy?

Hi again, instead of "doesn't care", "wants to win", etc. what do you guys think about a scout who has a philosophy?

Some ideas might include:

Pitching and defense.
The best defense is a good offense.
Young players are the future.
Veterans over prospects.
Starting pitching is most important.
Have a good bullpen, and you don't need to worry.
Speed and contact hitting.
Home runs, it's what the people want to see.

The scout's disposition could affect his draft strategy, who he promotes/demotes in the minors, etc.

While we're at it, how about managerial strategy? Hit and run, playing youth vs. age, baserunning strategy, shaking up the lineup/roster often, playing steady, not changing things, pulling pitchers, etc.

I know some of these features are in the managerial options already, but it'd be cool if managers had these things attached to them so their philosophy would follow them around. Hiring a new guy could make a huge difference.

I think that's an interesting idea, especially as far as managers and coaches are concerned..could make things very interesting in player development and minor league management.

Scouts are like Umpires - sometimes right!

Scouting is very important to any busy organization including us armchair enthusiasts! Including the aforementioned insightful suggestions, how about a "master" printable scouting report. Afterall, what are we paying these guys for? The scouts should take the "pro" level experience (stats) into consideration and compare them to the minor league level and "extrapolate" on them from there and make suggestions as to the rookie's potential for the "bigs."

For more league improvements, please see my post "More Bells & Whistle's Please."
