Just a few thoughts on how the computer should evaluate trading.
1) Assign a point value for each player within the organization - higher values for starters, younger players, potential, etc. 2) Look at these same values by position to determine relative need. For example, there are 4 First basemen in the organization, rated 18,12,6,6. And there are 5 second basemen, rated 8,8,6,4,2. The computer would covet, and go after those positions in need, and may even assign more value to YOUR trade bait for positions it needs. OOTP3 already determines weaknesses, and I assume there is some provision to assign value already. 3) If I have a quality backup, and a stud starter at the major league level...example second base...starter 24, backup 16. I should be able to put him on the block for trade. The computer team with the significant need should assign the "16" with a greater value, and offer me a player with a value of "16." 4) At the offer trade window, I should be able to indicate the positions I would accept players for. 5) The computer now has the necessary information to make a decent offer. I have never seen an even trade offered from the computer...this is frustrating as hell, as I have offered vastly more in trade that I have asked for, and have NEVER been successful in making a deal. I have offered my top 5 prospects for a "good" rated minor league hitter, and been turned down 6) Even if a trade was turned down, the computer should indicate why, or even propose a counter trade, like baseball mogul. |
