6.12 Crash Problem- Please Help!

I've been using OOTP5 for a few years now without incident (or at least they're few and far between), so I was pretty pumped to get version 6. But I've had nothing but problems since I downloaded it and I was hoping someone could help me figure out what's going on.

Here are my system specs:

AMD 900MHZ
224MB RAM
Windows 98
40GB Hard Drive with 6.0+GB freed up

The game appears to be fine, then it'll crash at random intervals. Sometimes I'll be exploring the league leaders when it crashes, other times it won't even load. I haven't even had a chance to play a game yet because it crashes before I get to that point. At first I thought the problem stemmed from my importing OOTP5 files into version 6, but it started crashing even when I was using the career2004 file that comes with the game. I've tried everything I can think of, including downloading and reinstalling DirectX 9.0C, but nothing seems to work. I've downloaded the OOTP6 files twice now and installed them a couple times to no avail.

If anyone can offer some advice or pinpoint the problem, I'd love to get this thing up and running. I've been working on it for two days now and I'm pulling out what's left of my hair. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out.

just a guess but using 98 is probably pushing it & if you do you probably need more ram.
