Why Is OOTP6.5 So Slow on My PC?

I have a 3.4Mhz Dell.
XP Media Center Edition
1GB Ram
More than 70 GB free on hard drive

Game takes 50 seconds just to close a player's page and get back to the roster. I haven't defragged in a long time but I'm sure that alone won't fix it.
I close all other programs. Firewall and anti-virus still running.

Any thoughts on what could be slowing down the game? Would deleting files within the game help? There are no photo files.

Antivirus would be my number one bet. It slows OOTP to a crawl.

I put anti-virus on Snooze and the game is very quick. From 50 seconds to 1 second to close a player page. thanks.
