Automatic Contract length

I've noticed that some players won't play 5 years of automatic contracts before reaching free agency. Does anyone know why this is? I've always been curious.

I'm supposed to list my machine specs, so I'll just say it's crap. I don't think since this isn't a crashing bug it has anything to do with that.

*edit: I guess I should mention it's an online league... meaning I can show you examples if you need it.

This is my best guess....

If this is a fictional league, when OOTP generates the players they are given experience, so even though they may have automatic contracts they may also have 3 years of experience. Because of this that automatic contract only has 2 years left on it... rather than the full 5.

I believe you can check the game generated experience in PE2. But you should probably have the commish do that so that you aren't accused of cheating.

a) I am the commish, but have no idea what you're talking about.

b) It's a real league it's happening in. Eg. Ed Rogers in real life I'm sure has had no major league experience. In the game, he had 4 years and then was a free agent.

Ah.. PE2 = Player Editor... I got it... where would I go about finding this useful tool?

Get it here:

Is this always happening after exactly 4 years? If so I would wonder if the game is counting the real life year the player imports in as 1 year, and then counting it again when the player plays in the majors that season?

That would be something that would have to be confirmed in the editor. If you can confirm it post it up here and it'll be added to the list of known bugs.

nope. It just happens to a few of the players.

While you're giving me links, would you be so kind to link me to that HTML updator that gets you the baseball-reference type pages?

crackpott, I confess I have nothing to add to this thread. I just click threads where I see you've posted so I can see your icon again.

It's a common problem around the board. My suggestion is to go here. There are more of them, and they're full-sized.
