All-Star Crash

I'm currently in the sixth year of a solo sim. In at least three of the six seasons, the game has crashed while setting up the All-Star Game.

The first two or three times, I restarted the game, and everything was fine. Players who were picked for the ASG had the league abbreviation listed twice for that year, but I could deal with that.

This time, the league appears to be completely hosed. The standings are right, but there appear to be no players in the league.

This is obviously a known issue - there's another thread about it - but no one offered a solution. I can restore the league off my Catobase directory backup, but I'm not going to bother if I have to worry about this every season at the All-Star break.
