Need help: 6.12 will not run on Windows 2000

Normally I sim our league on my desk, running XP. I had to go on the road a bit and loaded the game onto an old laptop I had, which I put Windows 2000 on.

The game installed, but will not run. Now I know I have run the game on Windows 2000 before so I am quite perplexed.

This is the error message I am getting: "OOTP6.exe has generated errors and will be losed by WIndows. You will need to restart the program."

This computer has higher than all the minimum requirements, should have ample hd space for it to run. I have checked administration tools>services>LicCtrl Service and it is indeed running.

This was on a fresh install of the OS, hardly any other software loaded on.

So if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. My league is kind of on astandstill, and I may have to ask one of th eother members to sim games otherwise.

The only time I've run into an issue like this was when I didn't have the all the available service packs installed. A lot of people will also suggest a fresh defragmenting of the hard drive. Those are the only suggestions I can think of, unfortunately.

I updated all the windows service packs earlier, as well as DirectX, but with no success.

I will run the defrag now, and cross my fingers.

Hmmmm...I know OOTP won't run on Windows NT. Never tried it on Windows 2000.

I'm currently running OOTP on Windows 2000, so I'm pretty sure it *should* work for Hack.

Sorry I couldn't help more. I'm not much of a technical person.

Well the defrag did not work.

I saw the message about i tnot working on NT, and the drive I had it on was formatted in the NT file system, so i put it on the other drive which is still Fat32 system, and still nada.

Nothing's ever simple is it?

You've tried deleting/uninstalling the game, and reinstalling it?

FAT32 or NTFS shouldn't matter, all XP machines are NTFS and it works there.

When exactly does the game crash? Right upon start up, or after you click "continue league"?

I used to run OOTP 6.12 on Windows 2000, and it worked flawless

Yup, tried unistalling and reinstalling it to no avail.

THe game doesn't really crash as much as does not start up.

I can run the installer without aproblem. I then run the ootp6.exe and it works fine - takes me to the licensing screen. I enter the license and it is accepted, then it gives me the option to run the game now. If I choose yes, the whole thing shuts down.

From this point on, if I run the file, it gives me the wrror message posted above, and never goes into the program.

im having the same problem i purchased the game last week and it ran great, had to restore my PC due to a virus and re installed the game and got the same problem as hack im currently using win 2000 also..

please help

Hmm I am wondering if an older copy of the game would work. 6.10 or so.

DL the freeversion of OOTP5 and it worked fine there must be some type of file missing

Did you download from the second mirror?

I think that is what I did as the first one was not working. Maybe it's a bogus file?

i tried both same thing happened its really pissin me off because i just purchased it and was really enjoying playing it until i had to restore my pc i cant think of anything else to do ive tried everything

Well it is an IBM Thinkpad 600
Running Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 4 instaled
Pentium II
128megs of RAM

a bout a gig of hard drive space free

what else do you need?

BTW I have this OS installed on the D partition. I have tried running the program on both the D and C drives to no avail.

If I'm not mistaken I believe that atleast v5 and possibly v6 were coded and of course run on a Windows 2000 machine...Markus can correct me if I'm wrong but pretty sure he mentioned that at some point. I've also run them on win 2k in the past w/o issue.

theres no doubt it works on win2000 b/c it worked fine on mine till i had to restore like f montoya said possiblt missing a driver

Click CTRL + ALT + DEL and tell me what % of your RAM is being used without anything running on your computer.
