OOTP 6.0 and 6.5 Crashes at startup

Hi,
I can not start the game anymore. It crashes with this message:

OOTP6 executed an invalid instruction in
module <unknown> at 0000:00000017.

The game worked fine for me up until Saturday night. I installed the latest Flash Player (8.0 I believe) and the latest Shockwave Player (10.0). I also installed Netscape during that time. After installing those programs, the game would not work. I reinstalled Windows. OOTP still would not work.

I formatted my HD, reinstalled everything (including the above programs) and it still would not work. I deleted OOTP, redownloaded it from the website, deleted the Flash, Shockwave and Netscape programs reinstalled OOTP. Same error message.

I am running Windows 98, 1gig of memory, Duron 1600, everything is updated using Windows Update.

There has been no hardware changes between the time the game was working (Friday Night) and the game was not working (Saturday Morning.)

Thanks,
Matthew

Ok, any more ideas? Or is this broken beyond repair?
Thanks,
Matthew

Try everything without the Netscape install... OOTP makes use of the default browser I believe... I wonder if Netscape is buggering it up.

I finally got it to work today, and here is EXACTLY what I did. I am not sure what step fixed it, but it finally works!!

1. Unlicensed.
2. Uninstalled manually. Chose all on every screen
3. Regedit - searched for POTD and deleted EVERY entry.
4. Downloaded OOTP 5.0
5. Installed 5.0 to the C Drive- It worked.
6. Installed 6.0 to the C drive (It had been on the D drive) - It worked.
7. Installed 6.5 on the C drive - It had been on the D drive - It worked.
Thanks guys for the help,
Matthew
