strange AI

I'm just kind of wondering if anybody else has ever come across something like this. Everybody can pretty much agree that the computer's use of bullpens is erratic and unpredictable at best, but I have never seen then AI do something this poor.

You can see the box score here.

In the 7th inning of the game, San Diego brings in its closer (James Kephart), to pinch run. He was the first guy off the bench. He hadn't pitched since August 31st, so it wasn't like he was unavailable to pitch.

Why would the AI pinch run with the team's closer when every bench player was available?
