I'm in the eighth season using the Lahman database to import real rookies for each amateur draft. Everything has worked very well with no crashes up to now.
At the beginning of the 1984 season I was doing the amateur draft and had made a couple picks before hitting "computer finish draft" button. It started to complete the draft before I got a nasty windows error with OOTP4 as the culprit. When I got back in it said the draft was back at round 1 but now there are no players left. I checked the log and it finished the sixth round before I saw the entry "No pick!" several times in a row. I can't seem to fix this. I can't reset the draft and I can't seem to finish it either. There's no one to pick, and if I let the computer pick or try to finish the draft it just crashes. This is the latest version of OOTP, Lahman 4.5 players, Windows ME with 256+ megs of RAM, plenty of HD space. P.S. The 1983 WS was awesome even though I lost in the bottom of the 10th of game 7 when someone on the opposing team got a pinch hit home run, the bastard. I love OOTP! |

You need to exit the draft... go to the Edit Free Agents screen and create some fake players, making them draftable... then run the draft for one round.. go in and delete the player, it should get you past the draft.
Worked for me the one time I had this problem... (OOTP3) I'd assume it will work for you |

Sorry guys, I'd forgotten about creating players in the "Edit Free Agents" area.
Thank you thank you thank you. Should've known that between Steve and Scott I would get my answer, but I didn't know it would be so fast. Woohoo! |

Let me also say that this worked for me too. I was in the middle of the amateur draft eight seasons into my league. We had a power failure and then I couldn't seem to get the computer to finish the draft, with it always crashing. At the end, I created a new player in the "Edit Free Agents" and made him a rookie. The one thing I did do after was release him from the team that got him and then delete him, after we successfully advanced the league to spring training that is. Thanks for the advice and it DOES pay to do searches here <g>!

Hi all
I'm pretty new to this and have had the same problem with a crash in the middle of the draft. Only other problem is I cant find the Edit Free Agents screen ... how do I get to this screen when I'm at the rookie draft stage? Thanks for the help ZuBiE ps took the Red Sox to the world series in 2002 and 2003 .... and finally got the win ....

Are you using the latest patch? This problem was supposed to have been fixed in the latest patch.
You can find the Edit Free Agents Screen by going to the League Setup Screen and then from the League Setup Menu in the top bar selecting Edit Free Agents. Hope this helps. |

I ran into this problem too and I'm going to try this fix. However, I'm curious about the players who were supposed to be drafted. Did they get drafted, are they in the FA pool, or are they nowhere to be found? If they are nowhere to be found, is there a way to import a year again and put them into the FA pool or something?
Thanks for any info. Rick |

What kind of league was it? If it was a historical league, then chances are all the players were drafted before you got the crash. It occurs when there are no players left in the draft pool, so if you had a draft pool created and the draft started, then chances are you used up all the available players.

Hmmm, that's possible. I lengthed the draft to 10 rounds to try and fill up the minors. Didn't work, I could always scale back the draft to 5 rounds, which there should be more than enought players for.
Is it possible to change the league type from Historical to Career and have it work? I know at one time, when there were no more players, the draft would just end, not crash. Thanks for the info, Rick |

It used to work like that (draft ending when there were no more players left). I was supposed to have been fixed to once again work like that.
You're league is already a career league. Historical just refers to how the players are gained. The only options toggleable on the League Setup would be to make it a replay or career league. Making a switch won't fix this problem. Sorry that I don't have any better news for you. |

Career league allows for player development and triggers the offseason.
A replay league is designed to more accurately replay a single season, by turning off player development, and I believe its supposed to make PT decisions based on actual ABs not skill. (Not positive on the last one) There is no draft or postseason in a Replay league. |

I was playing a career game (version 4.2a), when in the second season my amateur draft wouldn't stop and there's no button available to continue the draft.
I had completed the seven rounds of drafting, completed spring training, and then quit the game. I don't recall abnormally ending it or even shutting the lid on the laptop (have done those things in the past, but don't recall doing it this time). I don't know that it matters, but it was the first time I had begun using the gforce/rolen rosters. When I started the game again, the upper right hand corner's button said "amateur draft"....I opened the draft to find the same prospects that had already been drafted (the guys I drafted were still listed on the available list with the same ratings). At the top of the screen, the heading said it was a seven round draft adn that the current round was Round 8. At the bottom of the screen the continue to draft button is missing....I have "random draft order", "custom draft order", "available players report", "draft log", and "reset draft". The next button does not show. The draft log shows all the players drafted in the previous seven rounds...but, as mentioned, the "available players report" shows them all available. I tried adding 30 free agents to the draft and changing the number of rounds to one....but I still don't have a "continue draft" button that would allow me to advance the draft program. If I try to start the season it tells me to "finish the pre-season first." I'm hoping I'm overlooking something very simple...but it seems to me the file is corrupted. Any ideas? |
