New to the Game
Hi...I am new to the game and I am having a few Problems.
I am in the middle of a season and interleague play was deactivated...how do I re-activate this? Some of the Player files are not downloading to my server. I am getting the correct file in the game, but when I download the game, the player file shows a previous year. I notices a live broadcast feature for the game...how does theis work? Is there a seperate web address? Thanks for being patient with me. |

theCommish, you'll have to wait until the season is over to change the interleague play option.
Player Files not downloading? I'm thinking that you mean player html pages are not uploading to your server. Am I correct again? If so, you need to make sure that your webhost supports FTP, which means File Transfer Protocol, which is just a fancy way to say that files can be uploaded quickly in a manner that keeps their links connected properly as they were on your hard drive. If your server does not explicitly say it "supports FTP", you will be unable to do this. The Live Broadcast feature also needs FTP in order to function. Once started and running, the URL for your league members to view the live game will be at www.yoursite/yourleaguereports/gameID.html, something like that. If you need a webhost that supports FTP and provides step by step live tutorials to help you get the most out of OOTP, see my signature.

Thanks
It was running great before this. All the other seasons, there were no problems. It is only a few pages that are being lost. 90% of the pages upload the pages correctly. I want to save the few pages that are not uploading. Can I send you the file and some players that are not uploading properly so you can look?

I was going to say that maybe you've exceeded your space or bandwidth allotments, but if pages are not updating with the current year I'm thinking it's more likely that ftp is not transferring all the files. This happens to me all the time and so what I end up doing is re-ftping everything, but when the ftp client (I use smartftp) dialog box pops up asking if I want to overwrite existing files I say to skip them instead. You could do this, but delete all your previous year files first and then tell it to skip the existing current year files which will then only transfer the missing ones.

You don't have to buy smartftp as it's trialware.
You can use any ftp client so if you're more familiar with another, you can try using yours instead. (Some just might not have the skip function.) You can get smartftp at: http://www.smartftp.com/download/ Unless you're sure you need the 64 bit version (unlikely), get the 32. You will also need your ftp info: host address (e.g. ftp.yourdomain.com), username and password. It should be the same info you used in ootp. Once you install smartftp, type in your host address in the address field at the top of smartftp, then your username at login and password in password. Once it connects, navigate to the folder where your files are on your ftp site. Now here's the tricky part. Make sure all those old files are deleted from your ftp. You could either delete those one by one, but I'd just all your files in that folder as that would probably be quicker and surer in the end. Then in another frame use the local browser feature (if you don't have 2 explorer-like frames, click on the icon of a folder with a magnifying glass) to locate your files on your computer. Once you have, select the files you want to copy and drag them over to the folder you want them to be on your ftp site. Once you drag them there and release the mouse button, they should start copying. Now if you deleted all the files in that folder (instead of just deleting the ones that did not update) it should be simply copying them for, as far as it knows, the first time. Once it appears done, do it again. Now this time (or the first time if you just deleted the files that did not update), a dialog box should pop up asking if you want to "overwrite, skip, or abort". It's asking you this because at least some of the files already exist. What you want to do is now skip the existing files because they should already be up-to-date, but before you click on skip, check the all box so you don't have to click skip repeatedly. Once that's done, it should copy the files that did not copy the first time and all your files should now be up-to-date. So why doesn't it just update them all the first time? I don't know. Sometimes it does for me and at others it doesn't. Somebody else probably has a better idea why not. If you get stuck on the ftp stuff, go back to that smartftp site and read through some of their support tutorials. Once you get the hang of using an ftp client it's a snap.

So..If I completely destroy the folder and make a new one, will this work? Or am I to only download the new player files? How do I download the player files individually?
