Problems with Downloading

Not sure if this really belongs here, but I figure it can;t hurt. I've had trouble lately trying to DL things(facepacks, league updates, and even real world DL's) The message always comes up that its corrupted or invalid, before it asks if I want to save it or open it. What do I need to do to allow myself to DL again? Thanks, and sorry if this is wrong fourm.

Have you run scan disk and defrag on your system lately? I would recommend that as well as installing and running virus software. What kind of internet connection do you have?

Scan disk will take care of any corrupted files (which can cause other problems), defrag will make better use of memory, etc and help your PC to function better as well.

Thay are good things to run regularly.

It is possible that scan disk will find damaged files - but they can't be used anyway and so they can be removed.

Are you an AOL user? If yes then it is a known issue that downloading large files will cause problems using the AOL browser. Let us know if your are an AOLer and some workarounds can be suggested if that is the case.

No I've got roadrunner and use it through IE. I have found that if league commishes send me file I can DL it, but I still can't from web pages. Any work arounds to fix that? I'd really like to DL the new Rolen/Gforce roster set when it comes out, and heard a patch is coming out soon also that I'd like.

Hmm - if league commishes send you a file via email you mean? Most email servers limit attachments to 3 to 5 MB and the files you are having troubles downloading are much bigger. It sounded like the AOL problem but I still have some idea's:

1. Make sure you have plenty of empty hard drive space. This is a longshot but it is easy to check and can cause a ton of system problems, including cutting off large downloads.
2. Tweak your IE settings - either reduce or enlarge your cache settings (listed in MB or Megabytes). Another longshot idea - that is what I'd try anyway, just takes a minute to see if that works - if no, then...
3. Reinstall the latest IE - pretty fast and easy to do, and it would suck if that is all it took to correct this problem. Reboot at the end of installation.

Still an issue?

4. Next I'd look into firewalls - are you behind a home PC firewall? Do you happen to know if Roadrunner has some kind of mega security firewall/proxy that is filtering all your downloads? That could cause these symtoms, and I think that is why AOLers have all the download issues with larger files. Not an uncommon thing, some of the gear-buddy tech geeks on the forum might be able to explain what could be happening with a proxy server.

BTW, is there any info we should know, like you use a 1980 PC and a text based version of IE ?

Still have plenty of hard drive space, I'll try the IE settings and the new IE won;t work with Windows XP Professional. how do I get around that/the fact I can't download means I couldn't DL anyways. Thanks.
