Players turning to jibberishm then disappearing

I have had this happen only one time before... but it has happened again.

A pitcher for Minnesota has a history (8th round, 145th pick in the start-up draft) but his ratings are 10s or 0's, no offensive or defensive ratings, no statistical history, and his name is gone and now represented by a square.

I have not had any computer crashes, nothing else on my pc seems to be acting up.

I'm not sure if this is possible with individual players in the game but I know that at times when I run scandisk and have it to "automatically fix errors" then it will save a useless file on my HD which I just end up deleting. Just curious if this could be possible as I have never experienced anything like this and not sure why it would happen otherwise.

um... I don't follow.

I know what Scandisk is. I know what autofixing errors is. And I am very familiar with useless files.... but I can't make the connection.

For the ratings/stats to be changed, what file would have to be affected?

I don't know that there is a connection or if it is even possible, I don't have any experience of this happening so I am not sure.....sorry.

Have you exited OOTP/STB with Ctrl+Alt+Del ?

Yes. Now that I have done. The game refuses to be "recalled" after sitting on my taskbar for more than 5-10 minutes. At that point I can either get lucky with a right-click close or shutting it down by clicking on the "x" close button since the frame will rise from the taskbar, but nothing else will.

If this is a reason it is happening, then it begs the question, how do you keep the game from semi-freezing?

The Ctrl+Alt+Delete exits have probably caused the database to become corrupted, which explains the characters you are seeing.

OOTP has an annoying habit of not redrawing if you leave it unattended and the screen saver kicks on, could this be happening to you?

system specs: Win98, AMD450, 384RAM
Isn't that sad? I almost have more megs of RAM than MHz of PC speed.

I don't have a screen saver, per se. It does go to standby, so that might do the same I guess.

The million dollar question.... will this redraw "bug" be fixed?

I know that CAD'ing is not good, but it seems odd that it would only affect a very, very small part of the file. I could see more of a correlation if the player(s) that I lost had their player screen or even team screen open. Neither did, though. Both were on computer teams... which I rarely ever look at.
