Installation Problem

I am trying to install OOTP4 on my computer at school, and would be my second download. When I tried to install the game the following error came up. Could not initialize installation. Could not extract WISE0132.DLL. CRC does not match, data error (CRC)

What do I need to do??

Did you try downloading the file over again? You might have gotten an incomplete download.

Also I searched my hard drives for "wise0132.dll" and it wasn't on my computer. So this file must not be used in OOTP4.

The download is 13.2 MB on a CD....Is there any way to check to see if this file is available and put it on this post....I cannot download the file, and my primary copy of the game is at my house....Looking for a way to pass time at school!!

Ok. Are you copying the file onto your hardrive, or are you trying to unzip from the disk? Also copying the file to a CD tends to make the file read only... you'll probably want to check the permissions when you get it copied onto your hard drive.

Make sure you have the file on the hard drive when you attempt to install.

I copied the file at home from hard drive to CD....What do I need to do if it is read only? Is it a compatability problem?? Or do I just need to forget it and wait until I get home to try the download again?

Just select all of the files, right click and select the "properties" and then change the properties to "archive".

Steve;

Great idea, but it would not let me change it from Read Only into archive,and I have ability to download the file currently. As long as I have the e-license can someone else download the setup.exe file and burn it to CD? Why does it default to read-only when you burn it to CD?

Because most CD's are CD-R's which means that once they are written they can never be written to again. As a result the files are made "Read-Only".

You can download the setup file as many times as needed. You only use your liscence after you successfully install the game.

I could download the .exe file about 80 times and never buy the game... of course I won't be able to use it, but I can do it if I want to.

Believe my CD was a CD/RW...Oh well, I don't have the ability to dowload the game currently, so I'll just have to wait I guess!

You should be able to change it over if you can copy it to your HD.

yes. You have to work on your hard drive to install the game.

No dice...I don't think you understand what I am talking about....I had the file on my hard drive at home, copied it to a CD and tried to run that CD onto a computer at the school....No joy, I believe the file is Read Only, I cannot convert it to Archive and I cannot copy it to the hard drive due to cyclic redundancy errors....Oh well, I guess I am just out of luck....Because I have no download capability right not either!!

I understood you were trying to work off a CD and I was trying to make it clear that to my knowledge, it wouldn't work like that. As far as I know the game must be on the computers hard drive to run. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

If your CD has CRC errors you need to reburn the OOTP install file onto another disk, preferably a new disk (assuming the old was a RW CD) since the current one may be pooched if you have CRC errors on it. That means the file is corrupted, and the "wise" DLL is part of the temporary install program the game uses only during the initial install (install files are likely automatically deleted after the install). You can get this to work though, just a bad burn by the sounds of it.
Important note: Make double sure your original OOTP install file at home is alright - maybe you burned a corrupt file after all.

Scott;

I appreciate the help....My confusion is I do not see why you couldn't take a known good executable file (C drive) at home and copy it to a CD as an executable file...Then install the game onto another hard drive via the CD executable file....I asked this question a couple of months ago on this form how to copy the files in order to put the game on another computer and that is what I was told to do....Shouldn't be this hard!

That may work (installing straight from the CD) or may not, I have not tried it. Some downloadable software might be designed to expand some of the install files into it's current directory and of course you could not do that from a CD. Feel free to try this once you have an uncorrupted OOTP install file on a CD. If it does not work, copying the install file to the hard drive first should only take 5-15 seconds.
