Problem with rookies in historical league

I am rewriting major league history starting with the 1964 season, but I have having a problem with the preseason rookie import. None of the rookies (that I can tell) are going to their roster but rather, all are winding up in the free agent pool. I then have to spend more time than I want signing them to their clubs.

I have been following the Historical Expansion tutorial in the FAQ section, so everything is right there. I have verified that I am using Lahman's 4.5 database. And yes, my league is set to Career mode. Financials are off (it IS only 1967).

Any ideas?

Have you changed the league abbrv. or team abbrv.? This is the typical reason why this happens.

I haven't changed the league abbreviations, but I HAVE changed team abbreviations (i.e. the L.A. Angels to California Angels and Milwaukee Braves to Atlanta) but did so following the above mentioned historial expansion tutorial you posted in the FAQ section. Even if I messed up the one team, I wouldn't think that would dump ALL rookies in the free agent pool, would it?

I wouldn't think so, no idea why that is happening.

Oh well, since I am trying to follow historical protocols, it DOES give me a reason to delve into the free agents, where I can see players who were released in the off-season. This way, if I see in Baseball Encyclopedia that they should be outa there, I can delete them. If they went on to another team, I will go ahead and sign him there.

Plus it gives me a chance to see these upcoming stars (Tom Seaver, Reggie Jackson, Joe Rudi and Johnny Bench were amongst the incoming this spring) before they begin their careers. It is always fascinating to see how (and if) these superstars truly develop to that point.
