An OOTPB Virgin, help!

Hey everyone. I am amzed I just found out about this game and my jaw is still on the floor with reading all about it. I am a huge baseball fan and a die hard red sox fan. I want to go ahead and purchase the game immediately but I have a few questions first so bear with me.

1) I am currently using my roommates computer and am getting my own place in April and at that time I will be purchasing a computer of my own, if I buy the download of OOTPB now and download it on this computer and start my franchise, will I be able to take all of it with me to my new computer in April when I move? I understand about the license number I will get when I order so I wont have to make another purchase but I am more concerned about whether I can somehow save the actual franchise to a disk to take with me when I move to my new computer? Is this possible or should I just wait and buy the game once I move and get my own computer?

2) Being a huge Red Sox fan, I want to start my history with 1918 and not trade Babe Ruth :-) and rewrite history. Is there something else I need to buy or download to use the historical data base and how long ddddddoes the frachise go for. Can I play forever, go from 1918 to the year 2018 etc?

Sorry for the long questions. I can't wait to get started just need a few things cleared up. Thanks everyone. Go Red Sox, 2003 is THE year lol, yeah right

you can move the franchise on a recordable CD, or by putting it online for a short time. it's really not big. it's easy.

database download is all you need. free!

1. You can move it via CD or email or upload it to a site for transferral.

2. Just the "historical database" which is downloadable from many different places. There are several versions of the database as it has been adjusted a bit to correct various issues.

Thanks guys for the information. I can't wait to start playing but I think I am going to wait until February when I move and get my own computer set up. I have a wacky roomie who I can see erasing all my stuff when he gets in one of his moods to do some computer maintenance. Once I do start my franchise I am not sure if I am going to start my Red Sox in 1918 or in 1939. Starting it in 1939 would guarrantee me having Teddy :-). For those of you who re wrote histroy(which I think is the most incredible part) do you have a say when it comes to expansion? For example, when I reach 1977 or so, do I have to let the Expos and Blue Jays come in? Can I keep the Giants and Dodgers in NY and the Braves in Boston? How much control do you have over that? I am a big time baseball traditionalist so I doubt I will ever want wild card or so many teams. Once again, thanks alot. When I do actually download everything I am sure I will have tons of questions. For you red sox fans out there I will keep you posted on my challenge of making the Sox a perennial champion and keeping those damn Yanks as ring-less as possible. :-) I can't wait

You never have to expand or relocate the teams. If you choose to there is a guide to help you how to do it in the FAQ forum.

But you never ever have to go past the first 16 teams if you don't want too.

Thanks, after I posted that I found the FAQ and have been reading it. One thing I am still kind of fuzzy about is this. Say I start my season in 1930 and continue on season after season. When I start a new season do the actual rookies automatically appear? For example, after the 1937 season is over, will there be a draft of all the guys in the history of baseball who started their career in 1938? For instance Ted Williams, will he just show up on some kind of draft board? I read one FAQ and he was talking about signing the rookies each year to their appropriate teams. I think it would be more fun to have them just drafted where they could go anywhere. Ted may get drafted by the Yankees before my Red Sox get a chance to(nightmare lol) but I think it will be fun that way because you really are recreating a different histroy based on draft position and how the teams fared the year before etc. I just didnt hear much about how the draft works in that respect on the FAQ in relation to the guys who become available each year. Thanks again guys

After each season you will be prompted to "Import Real Rookies". If you say yes, all players from the next season are imported, if you say no, ficitional rookies are created.

After that prompt if you say Yes, you will be asked if you want to dump rookies into a common draft pool, if you say yest then you can have a draft of all those rookies, if you say no then they are assigned to the team they made their ML debut.

That is great. This game sounds amazing. I can't wait to start. I just need to decide from what year I am going to start. Thanks for all the help to give me a better understanding of everything.

The possibilities are endless with OOTP's historical feature, very complete . You can rename teams, everything you want you can get. You could start in 1901 (with Cy Young... I take the Sox too ) and award players to their original team, therefore you can have both Ruth and Williams. Or, what you could do, you could hol a draft every year BUT the rookies years of Ruth and Williams (which wouldn't be really honest, but that's up to you).

Oh, and by the way.... the Expos came in in 1969. There are many places where you can find some expansion guides to make your life easier.

Oh and one more thing... it's OOTP, not OOTPB
