4.2a ticker problems

Just DLed the 4.2a patch. Looks like the FA fixes are working okay, but now my ticker is haywire. I've always had the slow/jerky ticker (which for some reason was smoother in 4.2). Now the slow, jerky ticker is back, and I have the additional bonus of having a large oversized ticker running on the top part of my screen and covering up the menus. The left side of this "ticker" is a jumble of messed up graphics. Very annoying, and I can't get rid of it.

I'd be happy with no ticker at all....

Win XP
2.4 GHZ Pentium
512 memory
40 gig HD space free
32 meg Nvidia card
TFT display (laptop)

Thanks,

Mike

For those of you who read this, toggle Direct 3D in "Graphics Setup". Fixed my problem.

Michael, very cool of you to put up the solution you discovered - it will help other players for sure.

For what it's worth, I recently installed OOTP4 on a second computer - unlike my primary computer (Win98), this one runs Windows XP. I also am having a problem where a second news ticker appears at the top of the screen, covering up the window title bar and part of the menu bar. Direct3D mode is already off.

The only way to get rid of this problem is to change to full-screen mode. But when I do this, I can't have other programs running in the background because minimizing the game window causes it to crash (the window never redraws). OOTP4 is much more stable and flexible in windowed mode, but this bug messes up the screen in window mode.

Any ideas?
