Problem with "User data folder"

No matter what I do, the game when launched tells me that the "user data folder cannot be found" and shuts down. Please reinstall OOTP Baseball 8."

The trouble is that uninstalling and reinstalling leaves me with the same message.

History
I was moving both OOTP 8 and 9 along with all my leagues to a new computer. I set up a custom user data folder fine, following the directions, in OOTP9, but the same procedure led to this error message in OOTP8.

Already tried
Complete uninstall and reinstall
Manually deleting everything except the license
Running Registry Fix

Did you delete your OOTP folder in the Application folder when uninstalling? If not, try deleting that now.

Yes, I have done that, and tried it every which way. Must have done a dozen re-installs by now.

Guess I'll just have to live with a OOTP2007 install, with data folder clogging up my C drive, until all my leagues have moved to OOTP 9 (which seems to allow the data folder to move to the D drive).

It's a real mystery, though -- a total uninstall, with every shred removed from the main installation and the data folder, yet a reinstall will not allow me into the game.

Same problem.....

I'm having the exact same problem now...I switched users (the windows cfg. file got messed up, so I had to create a new admn account), and now I cannot get OOTP 8 to start for the life of me. Was there any other resolution to this?
