Bad Fielders Always Import at 0.930 Fielding PCT
On version 4.2 I am running a fictional historical league that starts in 1876. I manufacture my own Lahman type database and create statistics for players using the averages and standard deviations of the stats of the year in question. In other words, if the average homeruns for a shortstop in 1890 was 5, then the average shortstop in the fictional draft would have 5 homeruns. It works pretty well. EXCEPT:
When I was done with the year 1876, I went to the next year 1877 and drafted the amateurs. But I noticed something extremely odd, they all had a 0.930 Fielding Pct. if their stats were below 0.930 in the .csv file. This happened at every position and for every player's primary position. Oddly, this did not happen for any secondary positions - if they had a pct of 0.845 then they imported as that. This did not happen with the 1876 import.
I thought that this might be a 4.2 issue, so I pulled out my 4.1 backup and used that by getting the backup and using the exact same .csv files. Finally I used the 4.0 version and that finally imported with the correct fielding pcts.
Also, sometimes the fielding pct's come in that are wildly off the way the were in the stats, like a 0.750 pct left fielder will import as a 0.956 pct left fielder. Almost like there is a random algorithm to make horrid fielders good. This is an issue for my leagues because in the 1800's, a 0.956 pct in the outfield would almost make you a superstar no matter what your batting was - and this makes a team with a 0.956 fielder on it have a very great advantage.
