high speed cable modem and ootp4
Just went from dial up to cable modem
When I had dial up I played the game with only explorer and systray running so I knew I had plenty of resources to run the game. I now have 256mb ram, 600mghz, and plenty of hd space over 5 gigs and was looking for an opinion on how what I can continue running besides explorer and systray without impacting the game. |

Are you having problems with the game not running, or going too slow? If you have 256MB of RAM I don't see how you would run low on resources. Can you describe your specific problem more clearly?

Hey Exposfan08, thanks for the response.
Let me explain a little more clearly. I am somewhat of a computer novice so bear with me. I haven't played the game since the cable was just installed. I also went from 128 to 256mb of ram along with the install. With the net always hooked up I wanted to be able to leave up firewall and Norton etc while playing and with the new ram I wasn't sure how many things if any I needed to end task so as not to interfere with the game. Hope this makes more sense. |

You can leave a lot of stuff running and still play the game.
The extra RAM should keep things from being slowed too much by the other applications. I personally run AIM, Explorer, and often times Excel at the same time as the OOTP4 on my 192MB RAM system with no ill effects. |

I have a P3 933MHz with 256MB of RAM and an high-speed Internet connection through LAN, so I have my firewall on all the time. While I'm running OOTP4 I usually have an antivirus program running in the background along with the firewall and have had no problems. So I don't think you'll experience any problems.
If you're simming large numbers of games though, having the other programs on in the background could make the simulation take longer. It probably wouldn't be too noticeable though. |
