Please Help...game crashes on startup!!

When I try to run OOTP9 for the first time I get this message...

"" ootp9.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."

When you run it the second time, the game gives me this error....

"ootp found that the crashed-on-startup flag is set. " It says it will
reset the graphics..then it relaunches and I get the "ootp.exe" message
again...

The computer is more than adequate to run the game. I've uninstalled and downloaded again from a different site, only to reach the same conclusion. I've looked through the forums, I've found a few threads that start to address this, and then the thread just ends, as if they figured it out but didn't post what they did to get it running.

And another dumb question while I am at it... where do you download the patches? Is there a patch that addresses my problem? Or, if I downloaded the game today, are the patches included with that download? I haven't found a link to the patch files.

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge in getting this running. I've been playing "front office manager" on the xbox, but this game seems so MUCH better!! I'm can't wait to get started!

Starting the game shouldn't be a patch issue.

Could you please list your operating system, processor speed, available RAM, graphics card, and screen resolution?

I will probably get flamed as a newbie for this post, but I feel it needs to be said...

I am having the same issue. The standard reply seems to be that the computer processor speed, graphics card, screen resolution, etc.. is the problem.

I am convinced that the issue lies elsewhere.

I ran OOTP 9 successfully on my laptop for a year prior to having this problem.

I am no computer expert, but to me it seems obvious that the current problems lies with a recent update from Microsoft for windows vista.

I understand that the focus is on the OOTP 10 launch currently, but feel this issue should be investigated and resolved as it appears it is becoming a problem for a percentage of OOTP users.

My fear is that I will arrive at the longawaited launch day, download OOTP 10, and have the same trouble.

Can someone figure this out??

You certainly shouldn't be flamed. However, there are many different possible reasons why the program might not work on an individual computer. It's not a widespread issue, so each instance is in all probability a conflict with either the hardware or other, less common software on an individual computer.

What we need is for users to be as specific as possible about their systems and issues and answer questions as asked.

Sure!

Operating System: Windows XP Home edition/ Version 2002 Service Pk 1
Processor Speed : Amd Athlon 1.2 Ghz
Available Ram : 512 MB
Graphics Card : NVIDIA GeFOrce FX 5500
