importing players into league

Why is it so difficult to import MLB players into a file. Could I create an mlb.lg and copy the roster.dat file over the one in the ficitional.lg?

No, it doesn't work like that. The .dat files are too interconnected to mix and match.

Go to the 'Free Agents' page. At the bottom is a button called 'Import Historical Player'. Then choose the master.csv file and continue. The player id will be the first five letters of the last name + first two letters of the first name + 01 (unless you want to import Joe Smith, in which case there may be multiple Joe Smiths).

ex. Lou Gehrig is gehrilo01

You have to pick a year to import stats from and there are some other options for ratings calculations.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I'm interested in importing one of the mid-80's MLB seasons into a fictional league and having a draft. Someone know the easy way to do this?

I believe that you would accomplish this by importing a league along with all of its players and then deleting the league after releasing all of the players to the free agent pool.

Admittedly, I'm just going off of half-remembered comments and not personal experience. It shouldn't be any different in OOTP 10 than in OOTP 9, however.

Thanks, I couldn't remember off the top of my head if we could delete the league after importing it and releasing the players. I appreciate it!!

On a league's webpage. If you click on "home" it still shows the dead league as being there? Anyway to remove it?

PS - Let me know if you dont understand

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure I understand, but are you saying it still says 'MLB' there? You can change that from the League Setup area. Just change MLB and Major League Baseball to whatever name you want the league to have. You can also change all your teams to fictional names and cities from here as well.

Any deleted leagues will still exist in the history section of a saved game, if that's what you mean. There is no way to get rid of that.

Moving this thread, as it appears to be related to OOTP 9, and not OOTP 10. (Since OOTP 10 hasn't been released yet! )
