Game Crashes Repeatedly
I just downloaded OOTP4 the other day and the game tends to crash whenever I let it sim for a while and leave the machine for 10 to 20 minutes. It probably finishes simming, but then it stops responding. You can't see anything on the game screen anymore and there is no way to properly restore it. It definitely crashes every time my monitor goes into sleep mode. I don't want to have to babysit the game all the time, so how do I solve this?
Running Win98SE, Pentium II, 350 mhz, 256MB RAM. |

Yeah 100-200MB of free space is far too little. Unless you have a very small HD I would suggest keeping a gig of free space to avoid unexpected program crashes. Many PC crashes will cause file corruption, and that is not something you want to risk in an OOTP league.
About sleep mode, check the games manual about troubleshooting, I think it says something about this. If no try a forum search. Basically to avoid video crash concerns you will need to disable sleep/powersave mode on your PC as well as turn off any screen saver if you are going to run the program while in the other room. Also, if your are an XP user, you need to close the program before logging off. |

Do you know WHICH files tend to become corrupt? I had this happen recently and lost three seasons' of play (I had a copy of my league on my desktop but it was three seasons in the past.) The League Backup utility in OOTP seems to copy a TON of info. Are ALL of these files susceptible to corruption by a PC or game crash? Are there specific files that we should be backing up on a regular basis to keep our leagues running with minimal setback?

I would consistently backup the .dat files.
The .txt files can be easily edited to restore any lost information if you decide not to back them up. But the .dat files are critical. With these files alone you can save your league. Hope this helps. |

Thanks, Scott....sure it will....we all know that even if the game itself is a solid running piece of code, Windows alone can bring any program to its knees, crying for mercy.
Congrats on your administrator title there. If anyone on this forum deserved to have that role, it would definitely be you.

Win98SE and sleep mode dont always play nice together either. I usually dont have this feature turned on, it tends to cause more problems then what it is worth.
