Windows Problem
Here's a question I hope one of you can answer... I have Windows XP Pro, and my computer runs slow quite a bit. I tried ctrl-alt-del and found a process called "system idle process" that uses 90+% of my processing power, so I'm sure that's what is slowing down the computer. Restarting doesn't seem to help anything, and I would prefer to not reinstall windows. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

I'm not running XP but I know that in the last few weeks I had to "bite the bullet" save some of my important stuff and reformat my C: drive and install win2K(had win98se before) and wow what a difference.

"System Idle Process" actually is a software CPU cooler and it being at 90+% is normal. It regulates the current running of an idle CPU to reduce it's power consumption and keep it cooler.
1. Have you recently installed any new drivers, software, or hardware? If the PC ran fast before but does not now then that is likely the cause. 2. If the system never ran all that fast then maybe is the PC a little older? XP requires pretty serious system specs to run properly. |

I'm hoping to figure out how to get this done without reinstalling windows... though I will do that if necessary.
Killebrew- I thought the process was a regular thing, but the problem is that it comes up when I'm not idle at all, I'm playing games, online, etc. My PC is fairly new, a 1.4 ghz machine, so that isn't the problem. I'm going to try installing my game controller drivers again, that might be the problem.

The System Idle in Windows XP comes up almost right away when the processor goes idle. Chances are that if you have the chance to hit ctrl-alt-delete, then you have been idle long enough.

here is a screen shot when i hit ctrl-alt-delete while playing OOTP4. I waited about 2 seconds and the System Idle popped up. It doesnt take much time at all.
