Go into the "graphics setup" program inside the OOTP folder and toggle some of the options from what they currently are and see if that helps.

Sounds like maybe you need to reinstall the game again because there should be more than just a few text files in the OOTP4 folder and one should be the one I named.

It's never been installed. I recieved the program in zip.format. there is no installer. I can only attempt to open it by running
the ootp4.exe file. Initially when attempting to download game from the ootp website...I would download the file and get :file expentency errors when I would attempt to install. I then downloaded from the link you gave me in previous thread to help with that problem, that was in zip format. I also went back to the download link that I was directed to after purchase and downloaded the game from there...that also was in zip format and after unzipping to a folder it also only had the ootp4.exe and some .txt files but no installer. |

.You need to install this game, so the problem is not that whatever you are currently using here is giving this graphics error, the problem sounds like you cannot DL the game from .400. I sent you a link in a previous thread that had .400's ftp connection in it - that link worked for many AOLers in the past but it was and EXE file, not a zip, and it was the full install program. Were you not able to install that? If no we can walk you through various workarounds for AOL DL limits, just say the word .Here is the link again to the OOTP4 install file on the .400 ftp server: http://www.400softwarestudios.com/dl...xe&source=OOTP |

I am trying that link again Killebrew....thank you
for reference....after purchase of OOTP4 from the 400 store, you receive your order ID and a download link. I hit download, and downloaded this program OOTP42.zip from download.elicense.com that is what I currently have on my system. I believe it is just a patch and not the actual program. If so, how come after purchasing the product the download link for your NEW purchase only takes you to a patch??? |

also....I download from internet explorer opened outside of AOL. I downloaded a program 50 mb +, about 4x as large as the OOTP4 download last evening.
I don't understand what you are referring to when you say AOL DL limits. Is that a limit associated when downloading from 400's ftp connection?? thanks for your interest in this matter

There are (or at least were) known issues with AOL browsers and downloads. The AOL browser uses a different file cache system and as a result is often fooled into thinking it has downloaded a complete file when in fact the file download was cut off during transmission. One incomplete download saved in the browser cache will fool even IE and netscape into thinking the file is already on the local hard drive. This is a problem that can happen to IE and netscape users, but it is common for AOL users (try a google search to find more about this issue). That is why people will suggest you close the AOL browser and use IE for downloads (the larger the DL the greater the chance of an incomplete file).

).Idea's & workarounds: Many AOL users use download utilities like DAP to download files more quickly and with more quality (fewer incomplete files). Several OOTP users with AOL accounts swear by these DL utilities so that is definately worth a try. Downloading the install file from the above ftp address has worked for others. Not sure why, I guess different protocals in play when using ftp versus www, but whatever it is many people that have not been able to use the .400 www download had no problems with the ftp download. Other tips: - The "expected file size" error always means an incomplete download. To re-download you would need to delete the partially downloaded file as well as clear your browser cacher (delete temp internet files) and then try the download again and hope your server does not poop out before the file is DLed . - Try getting someone here to download the file from .400 and upload it to their own server, then send you the link. That will work in case part of the issue here is the fact the .400 server is in Europe and the connection lag is fooling AOL into thinking downloads are completed before they really are. Lots of idea's here anyway - good luck and tell us how it is going. Don't hesitate to ask for specific questions either as you complete each step - it will work yet

- did the ftp link work for you? If so then that seems to be a pretty consistant solution to the DL issue. This is very good to know as it will come up again when OOTP5 is ready .

thanks for the info about DL issues Killebrew
I am familar with OOTP so my problems are worth the wait a few things about my problems after purchase for information purposes 1) after initial purchase, when I went to Elicense download link it was not functioning for a few days....after E-Mailing them the link now works but I believe what you download is the patch not the game installation. it's a 6MB something zip file. 2) Elicense replied promptly...within 12 hours to all of my emails and were very helpful and prompt after hearing whatever my initial problem was. although when I called their support number in both instances I recieved an answering machine telling me to leave a message and they would call back. 3) I couldnt license my games via the internet.....it would not recognize that I had an internet connection......I had to do it offline which required e-mails going back and forth. Still do not know why. thanks for all the fast help in this forum.......much appreciated |
