Player Ratings out of whack

In my league I create rookies after spring training... I do this in the FA section & choose "create youngster"... after doing this, I edit their ratings and abilities... I give them the current ratings of a rookie (i.e. .265 avg, 15 hr) but the potentials I want them to have (i.e. Good avg & Brilliant HR's)

Repeatedly (at least 8 times... but I believe much more than that) these players potentials have drastically changed... for example, a player with an average rating in batting avg (.265) and a fair rating in hr's (10) ends up with Brilliant avg ratings (hitting .330) and brilliant hr's (rating of 10)

I've also had the opposite happen... players with, say, avg batting avg & good hr's end up with fair or poor ratings in both, not to mention a stat drop from about 6 to 2 or 3

also, this happens within the period of only 2-4 seasons

if this had happened only once or twice, I could live with it, but it has happened repeatedly... can anyone explain such a drastic change (both positive and negative) in a players's ratings and/or potential???? Is the problem only happening because I'm editing the player? Do I need to edit them with Pierre's player editor instead of just through ootp itself? please help....

Make sure that you set ratings first then potentials, no I have never seen anything like this.

I always do... I set ratings, then adjust potentials to what I want
