Exclamation Video Issues w/STB

I recently installed a 64mb ATI Radeon 7000 PCI video card in my computer. While graphics for my other games work great now, STB (with the latest patch) is having graphics issues. I've tried disabling and enabling the graphics options, and things have improved wtih D3D enabled. However, w/D3D, menu backgrounds are invisible and hard to read. Without either graphics option enabled the text is garbled. The left side of the letters in the text is absent and the top of the screen is not lining up correctly. I've messed around with different settings on my video card, but still can't get things back to what they were with my old generic card. Has anyone had similar experiences, or have an ATI Radeon 7000 card that does work and could share their settings with me?

Please help!

Are you sure that you have the most recent video drivers installed, not necessarily the one's that came with the card?

ATI drivers

I just double checked my drivers, and they are all the latest. In fact, the drivers that came with the card were from 1-28-03. Any other ideas?

STB video issues

I'm running on screen rez of 800x600 with DirectX 8.1. My computer is an HP Pavilion 4530 w/4gb harddrive, 128mb ram, 300mhz. My screen is a Samsung SyncMaster 3 (circa 1995). Something has to be set up wrong though because the game screens worked great (minus the ability to use D3D) on my old generic video card.

You need atleast Direct X 8.1b or higher and try running the game at 1024x768.

I installed Directx 9.0 on my computer and ran all the diagnostic tests. However, for some reason my computer refuses to properly display 1024x768 resolution. My video claims to have the ability to do so, but my computer will not comply! The text is still blurry and hard to read. If it helps, my monitor is from 1995, and I'm running Win98 as my OS. Everything was readable on my old junk card so I'd think it ought to work fine on a much better card?

The rez size limit is due to your monitor, so nothing to fix that except getting a newer monitor. Assuming your tried the various graphic modes of the game I'm afraid that the game likely just won't work at 800x600 with that particular video card. The awkward match of an advanced video card with the 8 year old monitor can easily cause an issue like this - sorry that is not more positive.

Can you upgrade your monitor at all? It's usually pretty easy getting a newer 15 incher since so many have upgraded from that size - it's worth asking your buddies or looking for one at a refit shop for uber cheap. If you lived in Winnipeg I'd offer you one of my extra 15 inch monitors for like 20 bux or a case'o'beer .

Is i..

Is it save to say that I won't be able to purchase OOTP5 because I use a 1998 Compaq Presario laptop that only allows me to have 800 x 600 rez?
I'm just a poor college kid that was pumped to buy this game, without paying for additional upgrades :-(

I do not know that this is the case, some people are able to run the game in 800x600 w/o a problem. You should try updating your video card drivers, make sure that directx version is atleast 8.1b and then download the OOTP4 demo and see if it works on your PC. If it does then chances are that v5 will as well.
