Can't get started 00tp4.exe

Just downloaded the game and I can't get out of the box. I loaded the missling dll file - and I got to the screen where I entered in the license #. But, not everytime I start, I just get message that the program has performed an illegal operation and immediately shuts down.

I have Windows 98, 127 MB of RAM, 40 Gig HD, and went and did a 98 update from Microsoft's Web site. Any info would be appreciated, or I guess I'd like a refund if I can't play the game.

What version of Direct X do you have installed? Should be "atleast" 8.1b, also are your video card drivers updated with the latest ones? If not you need to do that as well.

I installed the latest Direct X - but now when I try and start the game my whole screen goes black and I have to restart the computer. How do I know if I have the latest drivers? I'm sorry, this is a bit beyond me - most games will warn you if you need to install and/or update files on the computer.

This is pretty frustrating.

I think I might have solved this by reading another thread. It appears that when you buy the program off the Web site, the zip file does not contain the proper setup program, but a patch.

Go here, this will help you to update your video drivers.

Also, what screen resolution are you trying to run the game at? The game was designed to run at 1024x768, some can run it at 800x600 but not all.

Someone recently said they clicked the "buy OOTP4" link on the .400 site and were forwarded to the elicence site. Their OOTP4 game DL link at that time was just for the game patch as you say here. I thought someone here said that was going to be cleared up but maybe that never happened. I'd suggest you download the full game install here:
