OOTP4 Problem

I decided to reinstall OOTP4, and I downloaded the new 4.2 game off the OOTP server. Now whenever I play the game, if I exit the program, and attempt to open a save league my game shuts down with an error message(2nd photo). I also get a problem when I try to create a new league on my game, which is shown in the 1st photo.

I don't know what to do. I've tried reinstalling the game, redownloading it, rebooting my computer, etc...

I run Windows XP, 733 Mhz, Direct X 8.1, 128 MB RAM

I was just looking for something to tide me over till' the release of OOTP5, but, I would like to know what the problem is, 'cause, I'm really itchy to play the game again.

Can you give me more details? Where did you get the "saved game" from? Sounds like it could be that you got it off of a CD and that the files are "read-only". If that is the case, highlight all of them and change the "properties" to "archive" and that will solve the problem. Otherwise let us know a few more details and we should be able to get it running. Have you tried "starting a new league" and gotten the same result?

I've tried starting a new game too, including a Custom and Historical league, both are getting that error message. I was using a roster update, Wildcat, which I got from BBSC website. It loads fine the first time I play it, but when I save it, exit the program, I open the program up and when I go to open the save game, it crashes. I don't have the game or any files on a CD, I d/l'ed the game from the website. I'm using version 4.2

Other than that, I've never had a problem with the game until I tried reloading it on XP. So... I don't know. But, that's about all I can give you. I will check if my files are archived or not.

Well, I checked, and none of the files are "read-only"... The majority of the files are "archived". Like I said before, I sometimes get this message on the startup of the game after I exited the program and is trying to load the league. I also recieve the message after any creation of a new game.

Which files did you check for "read-only" status, the league files or the game files?

I checked both the league files and the game files, and all of them look like they are valid for being "archives".

You need to have atleast Direct X 8.1b or higher maybe that is the problem.

I have Direct X 8.1b, installed it when I got TDCB on my system about a month in a half ago. Like I said before, I never had this problem until I installed Windows XP on my system.

I updated my sound card for sure, but, as for video cards, I'm able to play all my other games without problems.

Just in case this is it:
Was the version 4.2 of OOTP4 that you got off the .400 server the game patch or the full install file - sounds like you just have the game patch, inwhich case you need to DL a different file from the .400 site. The file you need is called "OOTP4setup.exe" and it is an executable file, not a zip file. Good luck and let us know if that was the problem.

I didn't download the patch, I did download the whole I think, 13.3 MB install. But, when I was looking at the Elicense for the game in the folder, I noticed that it said it was registered with version 4.1. I used to have that, but, I deleted the game awhile back, and then recently when I reinstalled it, I got the complete 4.2b setup from the OOTP site. Now I have these problems. It won't let me unlicense OOTP4 either. I don't know if that helps or not.

My video card does work fine, it's the Rage 128 MB, and it is working properly.

Just because your video card is "working properly" does not mean that you don't need to update your drivers, don't trust the "windows opinion".

My video card is updated. All my other games on XP, including Tournament Dreams College Basketball, Civil War Generals, High Heat, and my other programs work on my system. I also tested my video drivers and they work properly and are updated.

My video card is: ATI Rage 128 VR AGP

Like I said, I'm out of options... lol. Ah. Well, if I just knew how to uninstall the eLicense Controls on my control panel, maybe I could delete and reinstall everything. Right now it will not let me uninstall my OOTP license there, and there are two folders with the OOTP v. 4.1 in there. I downloaded and tried playing with the full downloaded version of 4.2.
