Video problems with OOTP5?

I know that there is a disclaimer about video problems on some systems, but I was curious if there was a known fix for this anywhere. I've just downloaded OOTP5 to an IBM Thinkpad laptop with Windows 2000 Professional and have tried both DirectX 8.1 and DirectX 9.0 but still get the following errors if 3D Mode is enabled:

OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY (dialog box header is CreateSurface: Backbuffer)

then

Error InitDirectDraw (dialog box header is InitApp)

Any ideas? If I turn off 3D Mode it works, but I was curious if there was something I could do to use 3D mode on this system.

Display is set to 1280x1024 with True Color (32-bit) colors.
The video driver is an S3 Inc. Savage/IX Display Driver.

Thanks!

Not sure the difference with 3D mode off, as I can't run that way at the moment, but if I remember correctly it makes the menus and interface appear nicer, smoother.

To turn it off, go to the .400 Software Studios -> Out of the Park Baseball 5 program group and select Game Configuration. It's the first option.
