If you can't see text in the menus of on some of the screens, try turning off antialiasing on your 3D card. The text used in OOTP5 is thin enough that the antialiasing on most video cards will blend it completely away.

Don't see "antialiasing" anywhere. I am using XP. What section is it normally under?

Where exactly are you talking about? If you are talking about "color quality", mine is already at High, 32 bit

So does anyone know where to find "antialiasing" for the 3D card on XP?

Click Start- then Control Panel. Look for you 3 D card in your system properties, you should be able to make adjustments from there

Right-click on the desktop, then click "properties." Click the "settings" tab at the top, then click the "advanced" button. If your card has some specific settings (like antialiasing) it should have a tab at the top. On mine the tab is named the same as the card. Open this tab, and you'll get a menu which will vary wildly depending on what card you have and what drivers you're running. However, as you go through you should have a setting labelled "antialiasing." You might have to dig for it. Set this to either "none" or "Let the programs specify" or something that isn't a specific setting. Close it all up and try running the game again. |

Ok I'm in the "advanced" settings part. The tabs I see are "general"; "adapter"; "monitor"; "troubleshoot"; and "color management"

Maybe I am missing something, or do not have the most up to date driver? I have a 32 MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra

Hmm. It looks like that card should do antialiasing, so here's what I'd suggest-
-Install directx 9. This will update your directx drivers in preperation for fresh drivers from ati. -Install the latest ATI drivers. You should be able to find them at http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html This should add the tab to your advanced display settings. Try it then. Hopefully this will also make your card a bit faster, what with newer drivers and all. |

I'll be damned, I installed it, and all the tabs came up, including Direct 3D, yet when antialias is off and on, it doesn't work still

Slap me I'm stupid! However, this way I did get a better driver! Thanks for all the help

For me (NVidia GE4-4200) I have to either turn anti-aliasing off for the graphics card or turn off Direct3D off in the game or else I can't see a lot of the text in menus, standings, etc.
What do I lose by not having Direct3D turned on in the game? Thanks. |

for those with a version of a GeForce 4 that cannot seem to find anti-aliasing:
i found it by accident on mine. mine is a GeForce4 MX 420. follow the suggested path of "properties-settings-advanced" and then your graphic card tab. here is where i got lucky. on mine, there is a little arrow in green on the left middle side of the window. bingo. when i accidentally hit that, a slide window opened and the second option down (on mine) was "performance and quality settings". anti-aliasing is there. i hope that this helps someone. thanks to those that have patiently tried to help out everyone. j |
