OOTP5 Sound Crash

Whenever I try to play a game (as opposed to sim), the software hangs on "Initializing Sounds". I hear the crowd now and then...not timed enough to call it a loop.

The software hangs so bad that I can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL to get to my task manager to see if there's a memory leak. My config:

Athlon T-Bird 850
512MB RAM
GeForce4 Ti 4200 (128MB)
Soundblaster Live!

At the time of the crash, only my basic programs were running in the background: Trillian, Norton, Zone Alarm Pro, and Pop-Up Stopper.

Well, I had the problem from time to time during testing but seemed to have been corrected, try disabling different parts of the sounds and see if that helps.

Okay disabling in game sounds got me into the game so I could play. However, after hitting Pitch+Normal for the first pitch of the game, I got the Microsoft error dialogue box asking if I want to send an error report and the game shut down.
