Really Slow game even after trying tips.
I'm new to this forum...but not totally new to OOTP. I had OOTP4 and enjoyed it...and just bought OOTP5 yesterday and like it a lot. The only problem I have is that it is incredibly slow. It takes me 2 hours to do a whole year (season and offseason). I've tried the tips on fixing this in another thread in this forum and in the FAQ forum....but none made any difference. I'm running XP on a 900mhz Athlon with 256mb of Ram and over 22gb of hard drive space left. I have the most up-to-date display drivers I could find, and i've tried enabling/disabling sound and 3D graphics, and my display is set to 16bit colour. I've also disabled any unecessary startup applications on my computer. Anyone else experiencing this sort of trouble? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !!

If you ran OOTP4 in full screen mode when simming, you'll probably notice a difference. I noticed that in OOTP4, the sim speed in the window mode was slower than full screen mode, and was about the same speed as the OOTP5 window mode (which is the only way you can run it). I'm not sure why exactly this is, but that's my theory.

I have a 1.4 AMD Processor with 256MB's of RAM and can get through a season (non stop) in about 5 minutes, so no, it shouldn't take you that long.
One thing I've read that seems to slow down the game are Anti Virus programs, Like Norton. If you have one running, try closing it before playing. Also, run "Msconfig" (from the windows Start-> Run box). Click the "start-up" tab and close anything you don't need and reboot. See if that helps any... |
