Can't read anything in OOTP5

Well, I didn't think I saw anyone else mention this, hope it isn't a redundant thread.

From when I started, I cannot read pretty much all of the information on the screen. The problem is, while in the screen shots there is a semi-opaque blue background behind text,I have nothing, and reading white text on that light colored picture is near impossible. I've tried changing skins, looked through what I could decipher of options, etc. and cannot get any change.

I have tried reinstalling multiple times, etc...

Does anyone have a solution to this?

does disabling dircect 3d help (from the ootp5 program group)? and what about your video drivers, are the up to date?

Ah, yes, that did help, thank you very much.

Clearly when I said I tried all the options, i of course meant all the option except that one...
