Scouting/Ratings error w/Lahman DB
Here's a strange one:
OOTP 5.01 w/ Lahman DB 2002 Randy Johnson somehow managed to get a Velocity rating of 1!!! His primary pitch is a knuckleball, followed by a fastball and so on. The strange thing is that the scouting report says that he can "flat-out throw it by anyone." I haven't played against Arizona, so I haven't verified whether he's throwing 55 mph knuckleballs or 95 mph fastballs. Since I'm playing in manager mode, I can't modify his ratings to correct the error. I'll try to watch the next game he pitches in to see what he's actually throwing, but this might just be a bug that needs to fixed in the next patch. Also, is there any way to edit players while in manager mode? I like manager mode, but every once in a while I come across a player that isn't rated as he should be. It would be nice to be able to edit player ratings, but play in manager mode at the same time. |

Okay, first off, the problem is not with OOTP5, but rather with the Lahman database, and therefore can not and will not be fixed in a future patch.
Second, here is an editor that you can use while still in manager mode: http://www.400softwarestudios.com/bo...t+manager+mode |

As best as I understand it, the only real reason there's a velocity rating in the game is it creates the PbP element of telling you how fast the pitcher threw his last pitch. I also believe that it has no correlative value upon a pitcher's strikeout talent.
So it is quite possible for a pitcher to be a strikeout king, but hardly able to throw it over 80 mph. Or it can be the reverse too, a guy who can throw 100+ but the dude can't throw it past for the strikeout. |

The latter I find hard to believe, but it's very true that you can get strikeouts even if you throw 85 mph. You just have to have pinpoint control. I wouldn't say Greg Maddux is a strikeout pitcher, but he does have 2641 so far.

That might not have been clear what I said above. I meant in OOTP5, you will see those kinds of pitchers--ones with high strikeout ratings but low velocity ratings, or low strikeout ratings with high velocity ratings.
